I just stared propranolol er 80mg for migraine prevention, and it seems like it is really helping my anxiety. I keep expecting my heart to flutter and it keeps not happening.

I know it is prescribed for "stage fright" or panic attacks, but I have generalized anxiety, all day long, about everything. Has anyone else had success with propranolol and generalized anxiety?

Is this a temporary thing? or placebo?
Thanks for this!

Hi Badwolf, I was prescribed Atenolol a few months ago for having high blood pressure, it's also a beta blocker like Propanolol. I also have a lot of anxiety and panic attacks, it really helped with them. I was surprised when I was on it too because I kept expecting my heart to start racing but it never did. As far as I know beta blockers help with, or literally block the physical symptoms of anxiety; racing heart, sweaty palms, shaking, etc. I know that it doesn't help with the anxious thoughts, the mental part of anxiety but it can definitely calm you down physically.

I am surprised how much of my anxiety is physical...
