I've been taking Bupropion for my depression for a little over three weeks now. My biggest fear going on it was that my co-workers would know that I'm on anti-depressants. I mentioned this to my therapist and she said that no one would know unless I told them. I know that intellectually that this would be so, but emotionally I just can't shake this feeling that everyone knows this about me and is judging me because of it.

The med is for depression or to stop smoking, your anxiety may be caused by bupropion it is a well known side effect of this med. Nobody will no your on the med unless you take it in front of them, you wont turn green or loony. if you like tell them its for a secret smoking habit you have.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for your reply.

I did know that bupropion has an anxiety side affect, but I had anxiety before I started taking the medication.

Taking a prescription AD, isn't like taking street things or drinking alcohol, where it's obvious through the appearance of your eyes. Your behavior wouldn't change, just internally, it will affect you, the way it's designed to affect you.

I don't know what you're expecting but AD's don't work like that.

Yes, I know that already. Yet, emotionally it is causing me anxiety. I think maybe it is just another trait of my social anxiety.

Hi! I believe I understand exactly how u feel. As a matter of fact, I can tell u I feel the same way! People on this website of course will not judge me, but parents of the tiny infants I care for just might! I have told no one except my partner & she is on one also LOL. I have worked very hard to get accredited & don't need any "distractions" or judgments on my abilities especially with the job market being so competitive. Also if there is ever any kind of problem or issue about one of my decisions I don't want my mental stability thrown into the mix!! So..... I have made the decision for me not to say a word about it to anyone else. I also have anxiety & have started Wellbutrin for about 3 weeks now just like u. It seems to be working very well so far & has even helped an OCD behavior with my cuticles that has driven me crazy for years! That's probably the excuse I would use if I was confronted about "why" unexpectedly. Hope this helps u!
Thanks for this!

Same here, I love bupropion, but it also adds to my anxiety too, and in addition to that gives me more mood swings too. But I still take it because it's the best antidepressant I ever tried. I'm trying low doses of zoloft with my bupropion as an extra buffer because I don't know how long I can keep getting xanax.

Bupropion is a mild stimulant, it doesn't have any of the side effects most antidepressants have! Great for depression, will do NOTHING for anxiety and might even add some more to whatever you already had

Hey IndieVisible, Maybe I'm just being my paranoid self but I had thought of getting my Bupropion XL changed to a non-generic Wellbutrin because of all the negative reviews. However I find myself agreeing with u, it's the best I've ever tried. Mylan is my mfg. if that makes any difference. Plz let us know how adding zoloft affects u. Good luck!

You're making an assumption that it WILL add more. I don't feel any more anxiety on the medication before I started taking it. I do feel less depressed on the medication.

The fact is, many people take AD's, probably several of your co-workers themselves. They generally don't cause obvious side effects that would be noticeable to anyone but yourself. Do what you need to help yourself. It will be fine.
Thanks for this!

I think it may already have, hence the stressing over nothing but your imagination. this is a cronic anxiety problem , you depression is taking a back seat while your anxiety runs wild.

I beg to differ. I had this anxiety problem even before I went on the medication. I don't feel that my anxiety is any better or worse.

Fair enough. I can only try to explain what the problem may be, I thought you were asking for advice sorry .

No problem at all.

I was actually just posting that really to know that I'm not the only one that feels that way. It is always nice to know that my irrational emotional thoughts are not an isolated behavior. It gives me some sense of sanity.
