Hey everyone -- I've been diagnosed depressed my whole adult life and been on more meds than can count. Anyway, the only med that made me gain so much weight it made my head spin was Abilify, back in 2009. At the time I was desperate, I took it and gained 10 pounds in 10 days. Yes, that's right. I went to doc, told him, proved it to him, no it wasn't water weight, and it took months to lose. I later found out that in susceptible people, abilify can cause your blood sugar to rise, which then causes insulin spikes, and insulin is the "fat holder" hormone. With high levels of insulin a person can gain weight rapidly.

Anyway, years later I'm down 45 pounds and doing a little better, taking no meds similar to Abilify. But recently hit a horrible depression and nothing was helping. So doc says "Here, this Latuda is *two molecules* different from Abilify, and I know hwat it did to you, but it is *different* and "weight neutral" and blah blah blah. Anyway, I tried. It didn't help my depression in the slightest, in fact, I felt worse. And I am meticiulous about weighing myself on the same day of the week, same scale, same time of day, without clothes, etc. After ONE WEEK on Latuda I gained 6 lbs. Literally, six pounds. Without changing eating, exercise or anything.

So basically I'm just warning anyone who's gained on Abilify or even those you haven't, any thing that can make a normal person gain 6 real pounds in a week, and it isn't water weight, is a pretty dangerous drug in my book. I know some people love it and I'm happy for them. But just a warning.

Thanks for the warning, cookfan. Last thing I want to do is gain weight, but if the latuda will help my depression I'll deal with it. Only been on it 3 days, so a little early to tell.

I've been on both and had not problem with either one, except the price without insurance. I found Abilify to help and Latuda has done nothing for my mood, so he is weaning me off of it.

I was on Abilify for a long time. At first it was okay but then I had major problems--it's a horrible drug for me--I wish I had never even tried it. I've been on a ton of other psych meds--antidepressants, mood stabilizers antipsychotics...

I have not had problems with Latuda. I take 80 mgs a day. But, I take it for psychotic symptoms and it has been the best med I've found for it. I do have depression and it slightly helps with it but that's an added bonus. Oh, and the Latuda does not interfere with my thinking or make as tired like all the other antipsychotics.

But, like everybody says--we all have different reactions to the meds. So, Latuda might cause others problems that I have not had.

I lost weight on it too. 7 lbs in 3 weeks. Terrible Akithisia though. Now I'm trying it again, on a much lower dose.
