Hi Psych Central and members
Im new in this forum and im here to ask for advice with my medication and how to talk with my psychiatry

I have generalized Anxiety disorder, or so they say.
I feel fear towards new routines and the fear is really overwhelming.
I normally end up crying like a child out of fear.
I have this kind of fear ever since i was a kid and didnt want to leave my mom to go to school.

It seems the fear went along until now. Im 22 Years old.
I was able to accomplish things in life but right now im out of job and struggling to start my masters degree.

I live in Brazil.

Here is the medications that im on currently :

Ansitec - 5 mg - 1 per day
Moratus ( paroxetine ) - 20 mg * 3 per day

---

The ones i tried :
Clomipramine
Sertraline
Paxil
Pristiq -> Gave me anger issues

Depakene** -> used to take it daily for headaches which the neurologist thought it was a neurologic issue but it was synus. Go figure. I wonder if this medication influenced...erm

LexaPro -> gave me desperation crisis had to stop taking it
Rivotril -> just made me sleep a lot
Amitriptyline
alprazolam -> made me sleep a LOT
Seroquel -> Made me sleep A LOT LOT LOT LOT

--
However the moratus is making me gain weight.
And well, although the depression is mostly away, the *panic* and *anxiety* arent.

What should i do?
What kind of medication should i talk about with my doctor?
Thanks in advance!
Hugs from:

Wow... you really tried meds from many different groups!

I have no real suggestions but I'm sure others do. You seem both sensitive with agitation and sedation so.. whatever you try, you might want to try the lowest possible dosage first.

What about Buspar? It's a drug that people are very split on -- some people say it's just like a sugar pill, others think it's a godsend. I'm in the "think it's a godsend" group. I was taking 4-6mg of klonopin everyday before I started Buspar, and now I'm now to 1mg, just at night, for sleep.

Seems ansitec is like Buspar.
Same chemistry root.

It seems my psichiatry is adding anti-depressive + something for anxiety.

I might ask him to change the anti-depressive since its just making me gain weight.
I will ask him to increase the *buspar*.

I'm in the sugar pill group but as you said, it works for some people. Doctors are very reluctant to prescribe benzos to young people and in this case I'd agree that all other options should be tried first. You'd think there would be some effective talk therapy for GAD.
Congrats EverlastingSky for what you've accomplished

Ah, I see. Looked it up -- didn't come up when I searched the first time, but it did when I added "buspar" to the search.

The dose is extremely low (much lower than even the suggested starting dose!), so I would recommend increasing it. I take 10mg 2x/day and even that's a low dose, so I can't imagine that 5mg does anything whatsoever!

I wasn't suggesting benzos, I was actually doing the opposite and giving a buspar success story.

I know, I didn't mean to imply that you were. A multiquote would have been clearer.. that's one of the problems w/ online convos.

If the Moratus is making you gain weight, I would talk to your doctor about that. You state that is the equivalent of paroxetine, and if that is the case, it was great for my anxiety, I loved it! Until I realized that I gained about 50lbs. in a short amount of time. I had to get off ASAP.
I was then put on Pristiq and that helped. I have also been prescribed hydroxyzine as a prn and it's worked as well. Good luck and take care!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned therapy. In my mind, if so many medications are not cutting it for you, you may require a different treatment. Cognitive behavioral therapy is as effective as---and for some--more effective than meds for anxiety.

Hello! Welcome to the site! I'm 23 and also have GAD, finishing my masters degree. So far I've taken Zoloft, Lexapro, and about to start Paxil. I also take Buspar for my anxiety, and it has been pretty good so far. Also going to start risperidone to help with my sleep problems. Lots of medicine :P Little discouraging when it doesn't seem to help the way you feel it should. My doctor wants me to include therapy, like CBT, alongside my meds because he believes you need both in order to really make progress. Best of luck to you, keep in touch if you ever need someone to talk to!

Gabapentin is what broke through my GAD when nothing else would (aside from benzos). Lyrica is similar and is commonly prescribed for GAD in Europe. Unfortunately it is still extremely expensive in the US, because supposedly it works very well.

Supposedly the herbal supplements Rhodiola Rosea and Holy Basil/Tulsi are good for helping anxiety - there are many others but those are the ones I'm most familiar with ... Also DBT therapy and CBT therapy are thought to be extremely helpful as non-medication treatment. Good Luck.
