Has anyone taken this anti-depressant? I have been prescribed it, probably the generic version though. Anyways to be entirely honest I really don't want to take it. I've taken and gotten bad reactions from prozac, wellbutrin, mirtazipine and effexor, seems anti-depressants tend to make me more anxious.

But I am thinking I might give it a try mostly because it will help being on a depression med for SSI since that gives more medical evidence that I have depression severe enough to need treatment also maybe it would help(i doubt it though)...So yeah I was just wondering what side effects people have gotten, if it works well and how it potentially compares to the other anti-depressants I mentioned. So if anyone has any experience feel free to post.

I was on Celexa a long time ago and I am like you always had issues with more anxiety when starting. However I was on it for 2yrs and that is saying a lot for me. I quit it because I was playing doctor and thought I was ok. bad move on my part. Give it a try and start at a low dosage Good luck and here is a link to a comparison guide to SSRI meds:

I'm on it - 40 mg, along with Effexor and those 2 are a good combination for me. The Celexa pulled me out of a really nasty depression in 2007.

I've brought this thread back from the dead...as I have finally decided to give this med a try. Just didn't feel like posting a whole new thread about it as I felt that would be redundant.

I am supposed to start with half a 10mg pill per day for a week then take the whole 10mg provided the 5mg doesn't cause problems.

citalopram is not has strong has Escitalopram ie lexapro , so 5mg is very low, 20mg is a normal dose when on this med even up to 40 mg

Yeah my dose is pretty weak, they started me on an extra low dose because I've had problems with anti-depressants in the past so the psychiatrist figured I should start out with the 5mg, up it to the 10 and then go from there depending on how it goes.

Intresingly enough with things like alcohol or 'recreational' drugs I've tried I have a rather high tolerance.

Of all the AD I found Celexa the most helpful for the longest amount of time.

ye s but really the last two are uppers at the time or taking and turn to downers after the buzz. AD S on the other hand are downers first off even to the point of many giving up, then turn slowly into not uppers but levellers , if you get my drift

I noticed spectrum people very often present with an extreme sensitivity to most psych meds, while they are sometimes very tolerant to benzos and even alcohol.

Celexa actually was one that did not cause me anxiety, most SSRIs did that to me and even akathisia for one. But it shot me through the roof instead. But it was the good old days when people couldn't be med sensitive and smaller dosages "couldn't work" so they slammed me with max dosage at once.

I learned that half the starting dosage is a good way to start. Some people are just more sensitive. My ritalin dosage proves it. It does a whole lot for me. I take 5-10 mg. Starting dosage for a 6 year old is 20 mg! LOL.

Good luck with the celexa. I hope it helps and does not cause issues. You really deserve to feel right.
