I have suffered with anxiety, brain lock, depression and panic attacks for about 13 years. I currently has a prescription for diazepham for the panic attacks, they are that bad but I wont take a pill unless it is an absolute must.

However, I have 4 kids and lately I feel so overwhelmed and the attacks are more often. I have started counseling again, but due to its expense that causes anxiety too. My doctor recently had me on Quetiapine 100mg/day and before that Citalopram 20mg/day and HATED BOTH SO I AM NO LONGER TAKING THEM. Anyone had one that actually worked good for them without all the horrible side effects??

Diazepham is not really a panic med takes to long to work , I can take that in 40mg doses and still feel nothing when in full on attack. You have rejected depressive meds and with 4 kids I haven't a got any great advice its hard to relax with 4 kids

Citalopram worked for me, for when I first started it. Came off, was fine for a while, then heart palpitations(my major anxiety symptom) , came back. Therapy, xanax,, making sure i get sleep, look to avoid triggers, when and if possible. And the fast(er) acting med, when it's beyond my control.
Triggers can range from lack of sleep, hunger/dehydration, finance worries, kids(3), exh, court due to exh, work, etc. yoga, helps, can be done at home, even when kids are home...

Side effects come with all meds to some extent, you just have to find what works best and has the least side effects. I am not familiar with Quetiapine but if you didn't like Citalopram, maybe you can try abother like it. It's an SSRI and eeryone responds differently to different meds. Isn't diazepam the generic for valium? With 4 kids you need something to help you stay functional.

yes that right about Valium , millions of American still take this med long term . IT has a very long half life so once you get into it its still in your system if you forget a dose, so if stressed to the max it could work well if you if you keep a steady dose , has I said millions have live a normal life on valium for 40 years on the same dose, I don't like, it its not strong enough for me , but that not to say it could be just right for another person.

I've tried so many different meds, I can't remember all of them. The one that seems to help my anxiety is Klonopin.

Yes a Benzo every time for acute anxiey , but addiction or tolerance can follow, I am not addicted but tolerant but I sure would not want to stop my 4mg dose , or I would be up the wall like a spider

Klonopin works well for me too, but I have to take it three times a day, not as needed. It doesn't start working very fast.

Good if you can find a level that works , and you don't need more and more , why not I say . Preventing anxiety has got to be better than suffering it.

klonopin is too addictive for me and when I was on it I ended up abusing it....interestingly enough I take Valium which is in the same class being a benzo and I don't have an obsessive urge to take it and am able to just use it for anxiety.

Valium is ok but takes to long to kick in, I mean if in the middle of an anxiety attack if you took valium you would wait all day for a slight reaction , Klonopin take a little longer than Xanax and Ativan that will work in 20minutes. I have been taken to A-E before in convultions for anxiety attack. 4mg shot straight in the arm Ativan , instant calm and home 10 minutes after. you are sssssssssssooooooooo right about addiction , but like ADS its finding the sweet spot , some people will go up and up and still not find it, so will go past it thinking it will be be better, then your in big trouble it may not be working for you but try getting off it.BBBBBOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM. mine is a 30- 40 year love - hate affair with Ativan /lorazapam , its saved my life and kicked me in the balls, Valium to level at say 20mg a day would be a lot easier to get off if you so wish
