Last night I took the first doses of 3 new medications for BP2. Seroquel 300, Topomax 25, and Lithium Carbonate ER 450. Within in the hour, I was hallucinating, drooling down my numb face and it felt like my body had frozen into the sitting position on the couch. I literally had to have my husband lift my arms and legs so I could stand up. He kept yelling at me to look at him, and he said I looked like a drugged up zombie. I have been on Seroquel quite a while, so I'm thinking it's one of the other 2. I am scared out of my mind to take tonights dose. I see my doc at noon today. I am getting really sick of trying out her new "cocktail" combos for me. I want to stop all of it!! Any ideas?

I could be the combo of the three causing the problem, but my guess would be the lithium, but hey I'm no doctor, just been on lithium once before for a very short period of time.

Hope you doctor has a better combo to try.

Oh, sorry! I have clinical depression, ADHD, PTSD, and was just diagnosed in September with Bipolar 2. My meds are Prozac, Vyvanse 70mg. Was on Abilify, Seroquel ER 400, Lamactil, Depakote, and now trying lithium and Topomax.

Why would they prescribe 2 medications and increase 1 med at once? I don't know how you troubleshoot that. Most docs consider that bad practice. Heck most scientists consider that bad practice. Double heck most engineers in any profession consider that bad practice. I'd run and find a new doc to fix this mess. I bet if you explain the situation they'd get you in right away.

Now that I think about it... I think sweepy may be right if topomax increases salt levels. An overdose of lithium is really bad. Friend had that happen. You are supposed to check levels but hardly anybody does. Except she is increasing one and adding the other? Run.

Yes you are right , I asked my pdoc about this what I read here, and she told me to refer the op back to her pdoc.

"Lithium

In patients, lithium levels were unaffected during treatment with topiramate at doses of 200 mg/day; however, there was an observed increase in systemic exposure of lithium (27% for Cmax and 26% for AUC) following topiramate doses of up to 600 mg/day. Lithium levels should be monitored when co-administered with high-dose TOPAMAX® [see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY]."

OMG!! I've always had a feeling that she was kind of a rogue when it comes to her methods. She is also a nurse practitioner; she is in a private practice with a therapist. There is no Psychiatrist there. I thought I was being paranoid because she's new, but now I'm not so sure. Even my pharmacist has been puzzled by things she has prescribed and he has been checking back with her, which annoys her to no end! She even has been pushing certain issues with my Primary care physician, and he has treated me for 20 years!! Wow!! First thing Monday morning, I will be making several phone calls! Right now I am very angry!! When I called her to report the problems I had, she said there was nothing wrong and assured me I would be alright and just follow her directions! Thanks to all you who responded! Glad someone caught this!

All of these at the same time??? That is just crazy. Three anticonvulsant mood stabilizers at once plus lithium??? Find a psychiatrist.

Um...Please. Seriously. Run! Get another provider. A Real Doctor might be a good start. And always check with your Pharmacist as you have. At least they seem to see something is really wrong with the way this person is prescribing. Good to know...

I agree on running. Unfortunately there are quite a bit of docs that slam their patients with more than one med at a time, which doesn't make sense. But still.... too common.

Yes I agree with the above posters, I ran this by my pdoc, and she thought I was joking, but we looked at the thread together, she was reluctant at first, she just told me to refer to her pdoc, and that she had already said enough without crossing boundaries.

Triggering!!

My Pdoc had me on Seroquel XR 50mcg and also from Luvox 50 mcg to Mirtazapine 30 mcg. I had to stop Seroquel XR as I was having trouble waking up to get ready for work. Now reducing dose of Mirtazapine as I was hallucinating and feeling very Suicidal.
