hi everyone. i have recently been diagnosed with an agitated depression. started on citalopram but, it didnt work and caused me to vomit every morning. was on for 6 weeks and i kept getting worse. then, i was switched to mirtazapine. shortly after starting that, i had the two worst nights of my life. slept about 1 hour each night and had crazy, intrusive, suicidal thoughts all night. felt like i was literally losing my mind.

went back to the doctor and he increased the mirtazapine to 30 mg and added quetiapine 25 mg. since then, i have been feeling much better and sleeping through the night.

the only problem is, i am so tired all day. all i want to do is sleep. will this get better soon? i am feeling better on these drugs but, i cant function at work because i'm so tired all day.

any thoughts? thanks

Give your body a couple more weeks to get used to the Quietapine. Then it shouldn't be so bad during the day. I normally take mine an hour or two before I go to bed. Can you get some time off work?

If you are unable to function at work after that go back to your doctor and explain. There are other options.

Quetiapine can make you tired/sleepy/unconscious (depending on you and how much your on)
ALWAYS took mine an hour or so before bed, but always woke up with quite a "hangover" that would last for an hour or two after getting up.
(I say always, the hangover caused me to accidentally take it in the morning a couple of times - hillarious results!)

Don't know much about mirtazapine though.

Because of the depression, I went from 205 lbs to 176 lbs in about six weeks. Once I got on mirtazapine and quetiapine, I started eating and am back up to 187 lbs today. I am eating a lot of junk food, which I know is not good.

Just left the dr and he says to quit the quetiapine and that will reduce the drowsiness. I can't wait to get off this stuff. He says I need to stay on mirtazapine to prevent another depression episode.

I'm on both mirtazipine and Seroquel. The extreme sleepiness gets better after a few weeks. At least, for me it did.

5 days into taking 1/2 a 25mg quetiapine and no noticeable differences. going off next week.

question for those on mirtazapine...are you on this "forever"? my dr said that i should stay on forever since i had more than one major depressive episode. i really dont want to stay on forever but, i am too scared to go off as well.

I think both those meds can cause drowsiness, I was perscribed mirtazapine to help sleep and for the anti-depressant benefits a while back, but it didn't exactly work. Also, I personally hate quetiapine...that stuff makes me anxious/agitated and drowsy all at the same time.

How long is a piece of string ,1 shrink used to say to me begging the question how long on a med. It may stop working in 6 months or 5 years is one answer. If with MIRTIZAPINE you may want off for weight increase , I no I did going up a jean size every 2 weeks was not fun. Then again with you it may stay weight nutral

I remember being on both of these meds and I had a terrible experience with them, I felt like a Zombie most days and couldn't function at all plus the weight gain too, I am so glad that I stopped them but everyone is different.

Good luck with these and I hope that these work for you.
