I'm pretty new to this site so I apologize if I misunderstood certain rules (I read through them) or missed another forum thread that's similar to this one.

I'm rather young so doctors are often very cautious about offering me medications in fear of many things that could go wrong. I have only tried two with no results (both were meant to treat depression). I've been in therapy during both trials.

Fluoxetine (I believe 50 mg, not much at all) - No results at all but no side effects eithers.

Sertraline (125 mg) - No results whatsoever for me. I thought there was some aid but in the end, I still felt horrible. I would get an upset stomach if I didn't take them with food but otherwise, no side effects.

So, has anyone had any results with anti depressants, any side effects? I know most of these my doctor would never put me on (for the reason that I'm still a teenager). I'm simply curious and wondering if these medications actually help anyone.

Hi, Yes...ssri's certainly help many, many people with getting out of depression and calming anxiety. They can be a miracle. (If, however, a person is bipolar antidepressants can cause rapid cycling/mixed states, meaning your moods are haywire.)

I do hope you're seeing a psychiatrist and not getting prescriptions from a general doctor? Only psychiatrists and neurologists really know how to properly prescribe meds.

Yes agree dosage too high. More is not necessarily better.
I take Paroxetine, works well for me.

I will say it has been up and down for me. Some helped and some didn't. Celexa, Zoloft, Wellbutrin were some of my longest lasting ones and had many happy years on these, then they just quit working. Many didn't work at all or had bad side effects. I'm currently taking Fluoxetine 30mg and it seems to be helping. Along with 20mg of Lutuda, which I don't believe is helping at all. Not as much as I had hoped but at least i'm better.

I'm a side-effects machine when it comes to these medications. I think my brain is wired incorrectly. Lexapro worked for a bit, but I gained 65 pounds; Cymbalta worked but made me crave alcohol; Mirtazapiene did not work and made me a wreck; lexapro, again, made me anxious; wellbutrin gave me sever tinnitus; finally venlafaxine is making me jittery, nervous, and contributing to insomnia. So, five medications, one brief good result.

I'm on venlafaxine ER and it's working wonders for me. One side effect ... that you shouldn't be worrying about young lady

But yeah, your doctor has to be very, very careful. Right now your brain is still developing and won't be done until around the age of 24. The wrong antidepressant can have the very bad effect of putting you into either a suicidal or homicidal state. Please, no matter what you settle on, be very cognizant of your thoughts and tell anyone about anything out of the ordinary.

Celexa worked very well for me for 11 years. I would still be on it now if it didn't make me so tired after the 8th year. I had to be put on Ritalin with Celexa just to keep me awake. I have since moved to Lexapro in hopes to cut out the Ritalin. It's been working ok so far but it has only been 10 days.

There are many options out there, I bet your doctor will find something that works well soon!

Well, I don't know about the dosages (I mean if they're too high or what) but they were slowly increased over 6 month periods or so. So, I didn't start right on those doses, I assure you. I also went to see a psych who told my doctor what she should prescribe me.

But, anyway, I'm seeing a lot of mixed results in the anti depressants but I'm glad that some actually work well for others. I'm *hoping* I'll find the one that works for me too. Some days it just feels like all anti depressants are useless

Mixed results. The research says they are effective in 50% of the people. Most of us have to try a number of them and different combinations to find what works.

I started on Lexapro. It did nothing. They added Abilify, still nothing. Finally changed to Cymbalta and Abilify - Cymbalta 30mg and Abilify 5mg, and still nothing. I feel nervous and jittery, shaky, and am having many anxiety attacks and am having to take Xanax to calm down. I need to find the right combination of medications that will work for me, but my pdoc is resistant to changing my medications.

Please don't think like that. There is nothing wrong with how your brain is wired. I'm extremely sensitive to meds and I get side effects that are rare and sometimes opposite effects. My brain is wired well, they just make meds that are not a good fit. I did find after a long search one med that did fit me. Also smaller dosages work better with me.
