Not sure if I'm spellng it right.. however I am having horrible akythisia now that I am on Geodon (for bipolar). I also had it on Abilify and Latuda. It is so bad I feel I am jumping out of my skin and my mind is also short-circuting and having horrible fatalistic thoughts.
ANyone else have this problem with Geodon, my pdoc seems skeptical about the link and says it might be part of hypomania. I never have experienced hypomania like this before. |

Yea. And it was awful. It sure didn't feel like hypomania to me, it felt like torture. But I guess if they just watch you and not ask you, it might look like increased restlessness when in fact you just have to move or you go nuts.

Even moving doesn't help though Akithisia is the worst feeling I've ever had.

Hypomania doesn't always feel good. Many times it feels like torture. I just want to throw that into the discussion.

Yea but if you have felt akathisia, you can recognize it usually. Also if it comes only with taking a med, it's pretty a clear cut case.

Wish I had some suggestion. Akasthesia ain't pretty. I actually went to the ER when it happened with me when I first started Abilify.

Geodon did the same thing to me! It is terrible and no one really seemed to think it was a big deal at the hospital. It makes me mad that people go through it and suffer like that.

Akathisia is the most maddening thing I've ever experienced. It is a very big deal for the person going through it, and I can easily believe it has driven people to suicide, which I've read is now suspected.
I've gotten it several times from Elavil (amitriptyline.) That has happened when I've gone back on Elavil, after being off it, without starting on a small dose and working up. Also, it's happened when my dose of Elavil has been increased without doing that gradually enough. The degree of the restlessness has varied depending, I guess, on how much of a change in dosage there was and how fast the dose was increased. I've discovered that the miserable feeling can be counteracted by benzodiazepines (like Librium) and opiate pain killers (like hydrocodone.) No one should be left to suffer this without intervention to stop it. I also discovered that alcohol does not help at all. I don't think it feels anything at all like hypomania, which to me feels pretty good. Doctors can be jerks, sometimes. It's awful to be invalidated about something like this. I hope you've gotten this resolved. I can't imagine living with that. |
