I know for Effexor XR you only take one dose as it is an extended release medication.
What about for regular Effexor? Do you still only take one dose per day or do you take a couple of doses a couple times a day to keep it in your system? |

I think regular Effexor has to be broken into several doses (2-3x/day). I've only ever taken the XR, though. Much easier on the memory!

I think I am going to try to break up the pill and take it twice a day instead of once in the morning. By the late afternoon I am so anxious and have alot of aggression which makes me not like myself very much.

I'm having too many problems on the regular effexor. Dr. is putting me back on Effexor XR and upping the dose. Hopefully I will have some relief soon.

Thanks but I did the most stupid thing last night I'm still kicking myself. The Dr. called in my new Effexor XR to the pharmacy last night and hubby picked up a sample pack from the doctors on his way home to add to it so it could be upped a little bit. Well, I thought I wouldn't need the regular effexor and didn't want it laying around the house with kids, so I flushed them. We go last night to pick up my script only to find out my insurance won't cover the Effexor XR and here I flushed the other ones!

Oh no!
I hope the samples can get you by until the doc can get you a new Rx. Yeah, apparently my ins. doesn't cover it either. So when I pick it up it hits the out of pocket limit and I pay that, $150. ![]()

Yeah, I'm wondering how I'm going to do it myself. I'm really hoping it was just a first of the year deductible thing and that next time it will be cheaper. But my wife said it's not on the list for our insurance.

Are you going to talk to your doctor about trying to switch to something that is approved by your insurance?

It's terrible to have insurance dictate treatment. It's just wrong. I hope something works out for you. Effexor is not cheap.

Well, my doc said Prozac is the only other one I can try, so maybe I should do that. She just doesn't want me on one that is going to bring my energy level down, and she explained that prozac and effexor were the only two.

Prozac and effexor are certainly the most stimulating of the SSRI's, but zoloft, lexapro and celexa are all generally similar if the dosing is right...

I wish you luck with your meds Pughead. I am just going to go back on the generic effexor and take it 2-3 times a day. My insurance will cover the generic form.
