For 4 weeks I've been trying to decide if I should give in and begin taking Effexor XR (which my doctor is recommending). Before that, she had me on Celexa for 4 days which gave me a horrible anxiety reaction and put me off taking ANYTHING other than Ativan. She will be taking me off of the Ativan tomorrow and I have to decide whether or not to start the Effexor XR.

I've been looking through different threads but I'm so confused. What type of side effects have been experienced by you all? My fear is the sleeplessness and anxiety. The doc may keep me on the Ativan until I get used to the Effexor XR - I'm not sure. Any advice/comments would be appreciated!

Well, first of all, the standard disclaimer -- not all meds work the same for all people.

I have been on Effexor XR for about 6 years. The only side effect I had was right in the beginning -- I bounced off the ceiling for about 3 weeks, until I started taking it in the morning instead of at bedtime. Once I figured out that it was going to wire me instead of make me sleep, and adjusted accordingly, everything since has been fine.

Your mileage may vary. Effexor XR - Help!

Ive been on for just under a year.

It made me SUPER sleepy, made my jaw tremble, and made me kind of grindy in the jaw for the first couple of weeks.

other than that its been the only thing that works

Hi, Danialla: Thanks for your post. Do you recall what kind of reactions you had adapting to the drug? I'm just trying to educate myself! Thanks a lot. Good to hear that it has worked for you!

I take all of my effexor xr (600 mg) in the morning. When I started the med, 6 years ago at 75 mgs, I tried to take it at night but the dreams were wicked!!!

The effexor actually gave me a shot of energy in the morning too...........

Other than the dreams I can't really remember any other problems.....

Good luck to you!!!

I'm starting on 1/2 of a 37.5 mg capsule this morning. Pretty puny dose to start but the doc is concerned about my reactions to drugs. She said a sugar pill would probably make me anxious! Wish me luck!
