I just switched from Pristiq to citalopram yesterday. The Pristiq wasn't working anymore and was waaaayyyy too expensive. Is citalopram a good antidepressant? My doctor said that is the one he prescribes the most because it has the best results with his patients. It's a free clinic so I'm sure he gets a lot of patients. I did some research on citalopram on my own but I got conflicting reviews. Will it cause weight gain or weight loss? I gained about forty pounds in the last three- four years on Pristiq. I don't want to gain anymore. I feel like a fat pig.

Hey kittyfaye, I was on citalopram for 11 years and it worked great for my depression/anxiety although I did have to go from 20mg to 40mg then 60mg (60 not allowed anymore in us at least where I am) however it held it's effectiveness.

I did gain 80lbs on it! Although it does depend on the person. After 7 years on it I developed extreme fatigue and had to take Ritalin with it.

Over all really good for mood but very bad for my health eventually so I had to switch. Oddly enough I've switched to your former AD Pristiq.

My wife is using it and it's working great. I took it for a while and it worked great for my mood, but caused anorgasmia.

They all cause anorgasmia in my experience.

I don't think anyone can tell you whether Celexa is "good" or not. It works wonders for some people, for others there are better options. I can tell you that for me, Celexa worked really well for several years until it seems not to help much anymore. In my experience, all psych meds cause weight gain.

I've been on it since 07 and it's working for me. I haven't gained any weight on it.

I took citalopram 20mg for about four years. It worked awesome! I recently decided I didn't want to be on meds anymore and with the guidance of my doctor I tapered off and I'm learning to deal without meds.

The only side effect I noticed was weight gain for me about 80ish lbs over 4 years. However - I will say that during the time I was on it I joined a crossfit class and in addition to feeling better overall - I also lost about 40lbs (weight watchers online) AND crossfit helped with that. So I believe the weight gain can be managed, it just seems like it's a lot easier to gain in the first place.

I was on it from 2009-2012(?). I gained weight in '11, but I don't believe Citalopram was to blame. It was smoothies, and not recognizing the sugar content in them. Stopped those, changed a few things in my diet, had a herniated disc, started yoga...though weight loss occurred, off citalopram, I don't blame it, for weight gain.

When I was taking it, I didn't gain any weight. I didn't have any side-effects that I was aware of, and it seemed to work fairly well at first.

Been on it 6 years now (40mg) I didn't gain any weight up until recently but I blame my new meds for the weight gain.

I find Citalopram really good, Hope it works for you too.

It personal did not do well on citalopram and had some strange effects. Most likely what I have is an allergy to the medication. I got very confused and I would know what I wanted to say in my mind but when I tried to speak I could not seem to get the words out. I also experienced lightheadedness. On the other hand my son took this medicine and he didn't show any adverse side effect. The medicine just didn't really seem to do anything.
