I was on Abilify for over 10 years, then started having Parkinson's symptoms. We stopped the Abilify and upped the Lithium. After a month or so, I developed Tardive Dyskinesia (involuntary movement of my tongue and jaw) and Air Hunger (uncomfortable awareness of my breathing and can't get enough air.)
Does anyone else deal with this or have any insights? |

I recommend looking into dr Breggin's books and website even though you are not planning on ending the meds. I will forewarn you that it can be a triggering book for some people because he talks about some pretty heavy cases. You have to be able to take the information that is helpful to your situation.
I am no expert but I understood "tardive" to mean later which means it would occur due to the abilify not the lithium. Breggin does say in the withdrawal book that lithium can cause or worsen tardive dyskinesia. You could troubleshoot by lowering the dose for a little bit and seeing if the movements get better. He also has advice for coming off the drugs which might help with understanding if there is a connection to abilify. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr...=relevancerank Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I took Zyprexa for three years and developed Pakinson type movements. I was taken off the medication and continued to have the movements. An Anti-epileptic, Trileptal was started as well as Ativan to stop misfiring nerves, and Cogentin for the tremors and the movements went away except for some small movements about my eye which may improve with time. Benadryl also helped. I just described the treatment for TD.
