I could use advice... I was prescribed Xanax (baby dose, and I only take half) til my Abilify came thru, supposed to take 10 mg of the Abilify but i started on 5. Did well on 5 so moved up to the full 10, but after just 2 days of 10, I am really having issues. Lots of body pain, starting to get mouth movements, but worst of all I'm feeling odd mentally? Took a Xanax to feel normal again. My coworkers were even looking at me funny. It's like somebody gave me too much caffeine, but I had trouble focusing.

I see my p doc Monday. Should I go back to the 5mg til then or tough this out? I'm almost put of the Xanax and fear I'd have to go to the er if I get a bad spell like this one again. Almost passed out. Took the meds 12 hours ago--I've noticed it takes about that long for the agitation to hit my system.
I'm also on toprol for blood pressure and wonder if it could be related? I take it with my abilify, then about 8 hours later take my synthroid...which also might be a factor?
Really confused how to handle this until I see the doc Monday.

I love this Abilify btw, at 5 mg I felt more human than I had in a decade!

Seems like I read something about anti psychotics and beta-blockers before but I can't remember.

I think if it were me I would go back to 5 especially if you are getting mouth movements. You know your body better than you pdoc. I am sure he is not going to get mad if you are having a bad reaction at 10.

I guess there is some evidence of inter actions between antipsychotics and antihypertensives. I am sure your pdoc checked for contraindications. I don't think for the symptoms you are having though. I took abilify for two years with lisinopril and no adverse reactions. The abilify didn't do any for me. I don't know why I stayed on it so long.

Thank you. The worst episode was last night, almost felt like I was going to have a psychotic break but maybe I was just ready to pas out. Lol. I couldn't tell!
Hard to explain. Def the abilify, tho; I was on my other meds a full two weeks before the mood stabilizer (tee her, sounds nicer than anti psychotic), with no adverse affects. Possibly either my blood sugar or pressure was off, since these meds can mess with both, I read.

Ps." A little paranoia thrown in for fun." *wry smile*
Hope I get to laugh about it also, one day....

Abilify created intense anxiety in me too - and I had more suicidal thoughts. I had to stop it as well.

Oh, I hope I don't have to stop it. It actually helps me deal with my PTSD better and I've more energy than in like, a decade. It literally makes colors brighter. I was actually happy the other day. I haven't been happy for so long, I'd forgot. But yes the anxiety is more than when with just Xanax. But that stuff left me feeling suicidal, abd numb. Id take 1/2 dose. I want more than just no anxiety I want to feel normal--to accept no ones trying to hurt me, to feel the innocence again, to stop spinning in circles (literally) from OCD or whatever it is. Abilify has really helped with that but not past half a pill. I just hate it when I'd have breakout anxiety, though I could reason better that it wasn't a real threat.
Supposedly I'm being out long term on a benzo at the bottom of the class in terms of addiction, which is great.
I wish abilify helped everyone, my biggest worry is having to go on the rx merry go round.

I don't know why your pdoc wouldn't just leave you at 5 if you have had good results at that dose. Its kind of low but still a normal dose.

Going from 5 to 10 is actually a pretty big jump. There's always the 7.5 option.

Ability worked very well for me moodwise. My side-effect was jaw clenching. My pdoc told me to try taking Benadryl, which helped some. The clenching made me think I was more anxious than I really was, so once in a while I'd work with doc to go off med. Within 3 weeks I was a mess and would once again go back on it.

I've been off since Feb and doing well, but there have been a lot of other positive changes that made it easier for me to cope.

I wish you well.
Thanks for this!
