Hey guys,

I take 20mg Viibryd (and 50mg lamictal) every morning.

Unfortunately, I ran out of the 20 mg's and had to cut 40 mg's in half (I had some 40's lying around from when I used to be on 40mg).

Now, these pills aren't scored (they don't have the groove that makes it easy to cut them in half), so I can't get an exact dose.

When I cut them in half I tend to use the smaller half (rather get a little less than too much).

Is this a big problem?

I used to do this with Celexa and never noticed a difference. I'm not a medical professional but have done it and had no problems arise.

With short half life meds (like that one), some people might have issues. Long half life meds are much more forgiving. That said, I am on a short half life med and none of my halves (I take 1.5) are equal. I haven't noticed a thing. So my short answer is, it might or not be an issue. If you feel OK you're most likely OK.

I just started taking Viibryd and pdoc said it's ok to split the tablets in half and take them. She doesn't want me to go up to 20mg on 2nd week so I'll be cutting them in half.

As folks say, get a pill splitter. You can find them in pharmacies. I cut pills every day with one. It is a good idea to try to make the sides even the best you can.

Pill cutter, for sure. Have had one, for years, when started celexa. Inexpensive, at pharmacy. .just stick in grooved area, voila, rather even split. Mine has area, at bottom, so you can do in batches, if you need to. The blade is also set, safely, so i don't worry about this, around my kids.
