Welcome, Jerry, to PC. Besides helping to answer drug questions, you will be learning a lot here as far as real life response to meds., you'll hear real people's side effects,negative and positive effects.
RL accounts vs "what the books say" can be most helpful for someone entering this field or already in it. I'm glad you have come here, and also wish you lots of luck with school. Roe

Hello all and thanks for the warm welcome! I'd like to take some time and tell you a little about myself.
I received my BA in Music Performance - Cello in 1995 and am now back in school working on my pharmacy doctorate. I've always had a great interest in psychological physiology and pharmacology and have been studying them personally for the past 14 years. As you can guess, my focus is on psychiatric pharmacology - the main reason being that I have been battling Major Depression - "treatment-resistant" and Generalized Anxiety Disorder for about 14 years. I've endured - like many of you - countless medication trials and combinations including ECT and the Vegal Nerve Stimulator (or VNS implant) that was/is produced & marketed by Cyberonics (www.cyberonics.com). Mental illness runs through my family - with my grandfather, mother and younger brother having OCD and both grandmothers, father and younger sister having anxiety/panic disorders and depression. (Both my grandparents are deceased however). Also, I just want you to know that I am in no way affiliated with any pharmaceutical company and I am NOT a doctor. So I always try to remind people in my posts to contact their doctor and/or discuss options with their doctor. None of my advice is intended to replace any diagnosis or treatment (including dosages, dosing intervals, etc) from your doctor. I think that about covers it. I'm glad to be aboard and greatly appreciate Dr. John for giving me this opportunity. I'll do my best!! And please do not hesitate to ask me anything! Thanks!! Jerry

Welcome. You have an interesting story. I'm sorry to hear about the depression and anxiety and Tx-resistant problems - sounds like me. At least you have persevered, like a lot of us, too. d p.s.: Good to hear that you are not affiliated with any pharmaceutical companies.....I think they influence dr.'s big time. |

I have been a pharmacist for 14 years. Unfortunately, my battles with treatment resistant depression have caused me to stop working about 1 1/2 years ago. I had ECT a year ago, with some pretty major memory loss. I don't think I can return to that work again. I loved helping ppl though, and may give my 2 cents here too. Good luck in your studies!

Welcome aboard!
I am sorry to hear about your battle with depression, I am also in a battle right now, (Have been for 12 years), have drug addiction problems, and have been riding the depression drug roller coaster for a while now. I am on Zoloft now with Xanax, hopefully this will help. Again, We are glad you are here
