I was on lithium a year ago but, it was messing with my throids . I'm on topomax now plus Zoloft and abilify I haven't been manic for ten months.

The problem is I have problems multitasking problem solving and remember some stuff. I have lost 40 lbs which is wonderful, my h keeps calling me stupid or absent minded but he is no support whatsoever . I'm at 400 mg.

I'm not stopping it. Just wanted to know if anyone deals with this?

It screwed me up at 50mg!! I couldn't think at all or keep focus or think of words!
Thanks for this!

I have never tried it but I have friends who did. They did not try to keep up with the demands, they set standards lower and one of them changed jobs to one not needing a lot of cognitive skills.

I guess that is how you do it. Adapt the surroundings. If you are prone to forgetting, set alarms for everything. I have not really seen anyone improving their cognitive skills on the med, so if this med is so valuable for you, you simply have to adapt your world to a more low functioning version of you.

I would never ask someone not to take a med that prevented something harmful as mania, but at the same time it can be stressful for people around not to have the "same person" to talk to anymore. True friends accept if a friend changes out of their previous roll, but it isn't painless. I will not lie, I missed the depth in my friends who took the med. I still stood by them. Just saying that cognitive deficits doesn't only affect multitasking, keeping on task and memory, it does affect relations as well. Keep good people around you.

Thank you, it really has stabilized my moods . I'm adapting to changes in my environment . My friends are very supportive.

I just got diagnosed 2 yrs ago never got any therapy very bad childhood did not know mania, but sure did go through it.

Have not been manic for ten months the only one not supportive is h, he said I'm more productive manic.

I have to keep lists for things now that I did not used to but it keeps me straight. I also set alarms for events, appointments, and meds. If it helps, the true definition of multi-tasking, is 'how to mess multiple things up at one time' , and so multi-tasking is overrated. Focus on one thing at a time you will be more productive.

I am on 300 mg of Topamax and I felt the way you described as I was increasing my dose but now I feel fine, I have no trouble focusing, I don't forget things now, no trouble cognitively. I multitask very well, if I didn't I could lose my job. Do you take it all at once? twice a day? Sorry to hear this is happening, I have heard this happens a lot though.

I take 200 mg in am and 200 mg pm but also I have alot of stressors going on , unsupportive h plus I'm Thier caretaker and I can barely take care of me lol , by them I mean my h and his mother, mostly because he is lazy, plus I started trauma work. And ptsd nightmares don't help.
