Background: I am diagnosed Bipolar II (also have an anxiety and major depression disorder) and am currently on lamictal, trileptal and neurontin (for RLS). I sometimes take xanax for situational anxiety.

I used to avoid SSRI's out of fear of having a manic episode but I'm having a hard time right now due to divorce and nothing is really touching my depression. My doctor prescribed Celexa and it's making me a little jittery. This is the first day I've taken it so I'm willing to give it awhile but I was wondering what are the recommended anti-depressants for people with BP II? I think I need some med changes because maybe the lamictal and trileptal have pooped out on me but I'm cautious and want to avoid anything that causes major weight gain (seroquel, paxil, etc)

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I really loved Lexapro (until it pooped out on me), and I really like Zoloft. With the Zoloft, I do have to be careful about not getting manic, but with the right dose of Seroquel, I don't.

I dunno. I think it is a crap shoot. I would think the SSNRI's would be more likely to trigger mania because it acts on increasing available nor epinephrine. Also Wellbutrin is the most activating. Fetizma, an SSNRI, triggered hypomania in me for a couple of months. There are quite a number of SSRI's out there to try.
