I HATE THIS.
(And I rarely use the word 'hate')

We've been slowly decreasing my dose for a while, but a few days ago i went off of it completely from 37.5. And these past few days have been.... .....horrible!!

This med never even worked for me to begin with! Everything it was supposed to be helping, it made it worse. And now this?!?!
Sorry. I'm just frustrated.

I guess i just need some support here. Stories from other people who have gone through these withdrawals?
Can anybody help me out?

I am sorry to hear that you're having a tough time from withdrawals of Effexor. I hope that things improve for you very soon!

I take Effexor XR and my doctor cut my dosage in half a couple of months ago, from 300 mg/day to 150 mg/day ~ maybe that's a significant reason why I've been going through major psychological crises 10-fold.?? It has been very, very difficult for me. Such great highs, then intense lows, within minutes from one another. At the same time, my romantic world has been incredibly chaotic. My nurse is tempted to call my pDoc and have my Effexor XR increased a bit, before I swing back into major depression too hard.

Are these the types of symptoms that you've been suffering, or has it been different for you?

I hope that you get relieved soon ~ take care Stronger.

Thank you, my dear. I hope that things start to level out for you

I've been having symptoms more like:
- extreme lightheadedness that won't go away
- nausea
- dry mouth
(These much more so than usual)
- having a difficult time thinking at times
- irritability, that is irrational
And stuff like that. Kind of like the normal side effects of Effexor, but on steroids.

Yeah I had the same when I stopped too. The first few days were the worst and then it eased a bit. The symptoms lingered for a bit but they became much more bearable in time.
Thanks for this!

I've stopped twice. Once on my own... horrible. Once using Prozac to ease the withdrawal. That was relatively easy. Unfortunately the Prozac had no other effect and I went back into depression. No brain zaps or rages for you? Those were the worst part of my withdrawal.
Thanks for this!

I stopped effexor cold turkey. While the first three days were a bit rough (shaky, "brain-zaps"), the side effects of the withdrawal dissipated fully after about 4 days, and now I have no lingering effects (stopped the medication in April of this year)...
Thanks for this!

I ran out of Effexor at one point and it took almost a week to get a refill. The withdrawal made me feel sick (mostly my stomach, but also a headache) and made me extremely irritable/angry. I have heard from others that the worst withdrawal effects do get better with time, though.

Sorry you are having problems..I haven't personally taken this medication but my ex-husband did and had to stop taking it. The "brain zaps" were so bad that he came off cold turkey, and ended up being admitted to the hospital to be stabilized..he had a bad breakdown that I feel resulted in the beginnings of our divorce. I sincerely hope that you get better really soon, Stronger..Be blessed....

Update:
So the past few days have been slowly but surely getting better. The lightheadedness has been by far the worst. And my brain feels like Swiss cheese at times. Like it's not all there and makes it so I can't think occasionally.
The other day I got the worst stomach pain, a lot worse than usual. It may or may not have been caused by this, I don't know. It was the day I stopped taking the morning dose of gabapentin (which was supposed to help with withdraws).

But thank you all for the support. I appreciate it.

i wish i'd known about going on prozac temporarily to ease the effexor withdrawal. it is supposed to make it a lot easier. effexor withdrawals can be quite tough.
