I stopped taking 30mg Abilify suddenly a few months ago without lowering the dose or anything, I just completely stopped taking them. I started to feel the effects on my mental state so for the past month I've been slowly taking them again but I feel really sick and heave when I think about food or after I eat a big meal. Is this normal when starting them again?

I never had that problem but everyone is different. You might want to check with your doctor. Hope it gets better soon.

30mg is a lot....did you taper up? I wasn't sure what you meant by slowly...as in intermittently or at a lower dose. Intermittent is bad...

I never had this issue at all but I never had more than 10mg..I agree you should call your doc.

30mg is the dose my pdoc put me on, I think it's the highest dosage you can have? and I take three lots of 10mg instead of a 30mg tablet (as told to by my pdoc) so I've just been taking 10, then a few days later 20, just building the dosage up slowly. Ok I'll ask my pdoc, thank you.

Yeah it is the highest dose...so nausea and vomiting can be a side effect according to the drug info available but I'm wondering why you didn't have it before. I found this answer by a pharmacist and think it's interesting the part about the blood sugar and I think you should talk to your doc about that possibility as antipsychotics for sure alter your metabolism. I'm also wondering if when you first got onto 30mg if they tapered it up much more slowly and that makes a difference.

Thank you, that's really helpful. And I did start on 2mg, then 5, then 10, until I got to 30 when I first started taking abilify because I'd had side effects with another anti psychotic.... that might be a cause for the sickness? Thanks for all your help

I don't really have much to add to what others have posted,
But when I first started Abilify I had horrible sickness as well. I was vomiting and very nauseous all the time, then I took it with food and I felt a lot better.
Are you taking Abilify on an empty stomach?

Yes, I have been taking it on an empty stomach. Maybe that's why? I'll start eating food with it tomorrow, thank you!
