A brief googling of neurotransmitters and receptor sites gave me the following info:
Latuda: Antagonist for Dopamine D2, Serotonin 5HT2A, 5HT7 sites Partial agonist for: 5HT1A site Zoloft: SSRI that affects the 5H1TA site i.e. blocks serotonin @ 5H1TA? (reuptake inhibitor).. so it leaves Serotonin around? So, Latuda partial agonist (makes Serotonin available @ 5H1TA) and Zoloft is trying to do the opposite? I'm not a pdoc and maybe I'm missing something.. but this sounds funny. |

A partial agonist doesn't always activate what it binds to the same extent as the normal substrate...it doesn't make serotonin available so much as it mimics serotonin binding but not as well that's why it's partial so you will get less of a signal. So I'm not sure of the binding affinities either it may be that Zoloft has a higher affinity so it would win in that interaction....either way it's fairly irrelevant to the function of Latuda which is to block the d2.
