Hey, typically Tegretol/Trileptal is only effective 50% of the time...I'm surprised your doc didn't firstf all change Geodon to Latuda and try that and then add Lamictal instead of Trileptal since Lamictal is the most effective anti-convulsant for bipolar conditions and is weight neutral as well. Best of luck! Btw, typically the AAP, Latuda, helps manage the daily mood swings and is remarkable for bipolar depression...where the Lamictal is just suppossed to keep the lows from occuring close together over time. If you take 600mg of Lamictal than it has anti-depressant properties. Lithium is another incredible med for bipolar if you ever need another option!

Thanks. Couldn't go with Latina cause all others in that class have caused bad side effects. She figured it would do the same. Lithium screwed up my thyroid and no change with lamictal

hi, i just joined after a recent bipolar diagnosis. I am also just trying trileptal. I have 2 allergic rx this summer to other medications, one of which was lamictal. Doctor thought the trileptal might not cause a rash or other bad side affects, since it usually prescribed for children. Anyways it sounds like we are starting it around the same time frame. This is day 3 for me of taking the meds.
