I've been on lithium for a week and a half (900mg to start and just got bumped to 1200mg)...and I've noticed that I'm already developing a tremor. I've had med induced tremors before from both Depakote and Geodon, and with those, it was so severe that my entire body was affected and I would get asked multiple times daily if I was okay because I shook like a scared bunny.

Right now, my tremor is only really in my hands and lower arm, and it's not bad, just annoying...but do lithium tremors go away, or do they get worse? Is it something that if you want to stop you have to stop the med? I know that's what I had to do with Depakote and Geodon. And if with lithium it's something that you can do something about, that's great, but if not, I absolutely do not want to risk developing a tremor like I had before...looking like you have Parkinson's when you're in your early 20s isn't a good thing.

.
When I started on Lithium ER, I developed a tremor. It went away, as did the other side effects.
I can't remember how long it lasted, but it was mostly my hands, especially if I tried to do things like grab a glass or write my name.

BUT now, if I get in the toxic range, it comes back. It is one of the signs that I need to drop my dose (along with GI stuff).

At least there's hope of it going away! I am NOT willing to take a med that gives me tremors like the others did. Not only was it embarrassing, it made doing my routine daily tasks an extreme challenge as well.

Talk to your doc, pharmacist or even go to instacare it sounds like it could be tardive dyskinesia but I'm not certain.

A tremor (not TD) is an extremely common/well known side effect of lithium. It's not so much uncontrollable movements as it is the inability to keep a body part such as your hand still and not shaky.

Our 14 y/o daughter had a pretty severe tremor from Lithium for about a week. After that it improved significantly!
