My primary care physician has changed my Effexor XR to Brentillex...

Anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with Brentillex?

Thanks for your time!

I know Brintellix is supposed to be the best SSRI since it targets 7 of the serotonin receptors, but for me it didn't help at all! Best of luck to you though! Btw, if it doesn't work for you, you might look into Fetzima or Nefazodone!

I assume you mean Brintellix, the new anti-depressant. I haven't taken it personally, but I've looked into it and will tell you what I gathered from reading the drug information and a bunch of personal accounts.

It's very chemically different from anything else on the market and has a different action. It works on all the 5-HT receptors as well as modulating serotonin and norepinephrine. So if other anti-depressants have failed to help you, it's most definitely worth a try.

I haven't seen many complaints about physical side-effects other than nausea which goes away eventually. Most people found it activating, so you'll probably want to take it in the morning to help keep it from interfering with sleep. Some people said it increased their anxiety, and a few stopped taking it for that. People who'd had sexual issues on SSRIs found they didn't have issues on Brintellix.

Whether or not it works was a matter of opinion. I saw some people say they'd gone off of it after several months because it didn't improve their depression at all, while some others were calling it a miracle drug. So YMMV. I'd always try the older drugs first because they're cheaper and their long-term side-effects are better understood, but I haven't found any horror stories that would make me hesitate to take it.

Good luck. I hope you get a success story out of it!

That's definitely a cutting edge drug, just FDA approved. I like to stick to the old stuff. Good luck, I would like to know how it goes.

I would think since it acts on more serotonin receptors it would have more side effects including the sexual ones. Serotonin does a lot of things in the body. I don't know though. It was an option and I chose Fetzima because the SSNRI's work better for me.
