Hey,

So I've been taking 30mg of Citalopram lately... Usually I have 1-2 beers a night, 12oz. When I was interviewed by my doctor I told her I drink typically 3-4 times a week, but usually it's 5-6 times a week. I guess I've been ignoring that this is bad for me. But it is, right?

These are my questions

1) does drinking while on Citalopram impair my liver

2) does it prolong my depression/anxiety

I suppose I can't undo what I've already done but I'm willing to try to change my habits if it's for the greater good.

Thanks

1) alcohol hurts livers regardless of any meds you're taking.
2) alcohol is a depressant, so drinking frequently can hider the effects of anti depressants.

I don't know how citalopram is affected by alcohol but I used to take citalopram and did drink but only very rarely, maybe 1 time every few years or so. I don't think it's a good idea just because alcohol is a depressant and it's definitely not helping matters. So I did stop drinking all together.

I do think stopping the drinking is for the greater good of your health. Really for everybody but especially those of us who suffer with depression.

Good luck to you!

Drinking while on any psych med is a bad idea, not only because it can negatively affect the liver, but also because the meds can also make you drunk faster.

And alcohol is definitely a depressant, so while you're drinking you won't get the full benefit of the AD.

You're right. Emailed my Dr, she said 1 drink 2-3 times a week is OK, no more than that....

Uhoh... I'm in for a big change
