I'm really struggling with my medication. I took a full dose of it last night and woke up feeling really terrible and wanting to sleep all day. Needless to say, it's not helping me with depression. I took other medications before, but lately was prescribed Lexapro 5 mg, and I feel more depressed on the days when I take it at night. It just eats away all my morning and I am so lethargic and depressed that I all I can manage to do is eat. I feel nauseous and sick. I don't know what to do, I just took a shower and feel a little bit better, but the nausea hasn't gone away entirely. I guess I'm going to drink liquids until the effects wear off. I feel so depressed, I thought if I took it it would help me feel better, but instead it made me feel much worse. Please help! ( I called the helpline, but the person there just said to go to hospital for evaluation, and had very little advice to how to cope with these challenges on my own at home). I just feel like I'm so screwed by the mental health system, that I almost want to go back to my previous doctor who had given me other medications (paxil and zyprexa). Feeling like a hamster in this wheel of medications and emotions.

I know the feeling. I'd definitely keep trying your doctor's office & speak with a nurse there as well. I'd talk to my pharmacist as well. That's just me. *big friendship hug*

I felt really nauseous t the beginning too. I also had really bad headaches. I felt better the more water I drank. For me for some reason I felt so dehydrated or at least my body thought so, so I drank 32oz in the morning and another 64oz throughout the day. Made me feel so much better. Ur body has to adjust to the meds and can take a few weeks to do so.
For me I got really depressed on 10mg of lexapro and even suicidal. Pdoc upped dose to 20mg and it's helped quite a bit. I still feel down sometimes but way more manageable. If the water doesn't help maybe call ur Pdoc and see if there's anything thy could give u for the nausea.

Thanks for your comments. I don't know if I can tolerate a higher dose. I definitely feel terrible on 5 mg and really depressed in the morning. I was cutting the dose in half and taking 2.5 once daily because the 5 mg was making me really drowsy if I took it in the morning. I used to be okay on Paxil and zyprexa mostly, and I tried a few other medications like Sepharis that did make me feel better just I had some issue with circulation in my legs from it. It looks like the doctor said to make another appointment to come see her. I feel like I should be on a homeopathic remedy instead of pharmaceuticals.

I don't have any advice, just a sympathetic ear. I've been going through similar issues trying to get answers and adjustments and no one is around (either the pdoc is out of the office, or it's evening/weekend), so all I get are instructions to go to the er. I have an HMO, and I would think they'd save money by helping people stay out of the er and IP by providing some extra support and frequent check-ins/phone calls until stabilized on the right combo of meds. It makes the most sense to support people where they are. The fears of what's normal, what's a concern, etc. are heightened when there's no one to answer questions.

Take the lexapro at night. It makes me drowsy too. That way when it makes u tired u go to sleep. Just remember drink water in the morning. It will make u feel better u just have to get through the first few weeks while ur body adjusts. It took me about 4 weeks but as long as I drank plenty of water the nausea wasn't a factor. I was SUI until I made it to 20mg. At 20 it was makin me tired all te time so as of yesterday I'm now at 15mg since at 10 I was pretty bad off. Pdoc has added 100mg of Wellbutrin to cut into the exhaustion.
