Has being put on Wellbutrin made anyone's world just totally worse? I have severe depression and anxiety, and my dr. first started me at 150, then increased it to 300. This past visit she reduced it back to 150 because she saw I was going down the toilet. I feel like I can barely hang on until I see her in two weeks. I had to stay at home this weekend instead of visiting family out of town.

Hi, Juniebug. I am sorry you are having this experience with Wellbutrin. I have not had any problem with it, but maybe someone else has. Different meds affect people differently. I hope your doc can come up with the right one for you.
Thanks for this!

Oh god yes...Wellbutrin is often not great for people who are generally anxious. It made me insanely anxious and gave me heart palpitations! Can you taper down from the 150 dose?? It doesn't sound like this is the med for you!

Thanks for answering. I'm just trying to hang in there until I see my doc in a week. I know she'll make some kind of adjustment. Just trying to white knuckle it, since it seems to make my Ativan less effective too.

Wellbutrin is one of those drugs that most people either do really well on or it messes them up. I'm one of the people it messed up---it made me manic and psychotic, and I apparently ran around threatening to kill people. I do not remember much of this, but I believe the people who told me that's what I did. In the end, I was diagnosed bipolar, not just because of the reaction to WB but because I'd had other wild times in my life interspersed with bouts of depression.

How long have you been taking it??? That's too bad I'm sorry to hear that your not doing so well.. I was on this med site that had a whole section of a positive thread for Wellbutrin some had bad effects in the beginning same dx severe depression/ anxiety panic ( my dx too ...) anyhow those that made it too approx 12 weeks the anxiety went away and are doing great. My friend was on it then off it but needs it again so started back up same dx as you and me she is doing wonderful. I am starting it tomorrow. Scared of course terrified is more like it as I been med free for 4 mths managing fine really but not really happy or motivated. Lol.. I was suppose to start a long time ago but fear of the fear (anxiety/panic) keeps me from it start dates have come and gone.. Sorry for the long post. I hope you find something that works wonders celexa did for me for years it was the only thing I was on mostly it did wonders for my depression, panic attacks anxiety and help me get over my agoraphobia !!!! Anyways hopes wellburtin works for me and hope you get better soon.
Thanks for this!

Wellbutrin (buproprion) broke me out in awful hives a week after I began to take it. I itched so badly everywhere that it made me cry and had to see the doc for a shot in my butt - twice. Fair warning there.

One of the rarer side effects bad luck for you, too bad. Things either work or they don't least you know didn't work for you. Warnings come with everything in life.. My post was to try give fair opinion of good and bad. Not to try scare someone even more. As fearful as I may be I would never want to subject someone else to that, express it yes..fair warnings if I was in a worse place would scare the out of me.

Thanks so much for responding. I started taking it about a month ago. I just called my docs office to see if there is anything she can do until I see her next week, because it's just that miserable. I hope it works better for you. Best to you.

I am glad that you called your doctor now for an adjustment to your meds, instead of waiting until next week. I have found that if a medication causes a bad reaction early in the game, it's not for me. Wellbutrin works great for me, but at least a dozen other anti-depressants did not, or had side effects that I did not want. So, for me, it's the perfect medication and has zero side effects and I take 300 mg. However, for others, it is not a good choice. Everyone is different and in time you will find what works for you.

Juniebug,

I don't usually have seizures, but with Wellbutrin and its general class of anti-depressants, I will have seizures. (been there, done that)

I stay away from it.
Thanks for this!

Hello.

I was put on Lexapro and Wellbutrin SR 150 mg 2xday Extended Release a little over a month ago. I took Lexapro for a week or so before I started Wellbutrin. I feel once I started the Wellbutrin with Lexapro I did feel more awake (I was sleeping my life away) continued on but still having crying fits at any point and time etc. I took it both for about 1.5 months or a little shy of it. I was still a mess (all last week still) so I paid out of pocket to go back to my Pyschatrist that treated me the past 2 years before I lost insurance (she now don't take my insurance) I was in dire need. I am quitting Lexapro bc it made RLS worse but she changed my Wellbutrin to 1x day XL 300mg Extended Release but has added Lamotrigine (mood stablizer) which I go from 25-100mg thru out 4 weeks.
Oddly, the past 2 days for me have been the better of the days that I have had in 6 months with this depression. I am having to self talk and push a lot out of my mind still and just focus on other things .. but I'm wondering if the Wellbutrin 300 is helping me out to feel better? I'm praying to keep having days like this even though I know I'm not "OK and all better". So I'll keep you updated how it goes bc I don't want to say Wellbutrin didn't do anything for me .. but it didn't make me do anything out of the way .. I just still cried a lot!

Yeah, everybody reacts differently to medications. I've never been on Wellbutrin but I definitely have some horror stories with other meds. My mom was on Wellbutrin when I was younger and it gave her panic attacks, so you're not alone.
Thanks for this!
