Amongst the other questons I've bombarded you with on Topamax, I haven't been able to find on the "net" any info in regards to thinning of hair while on Topamax. Like Depakote, does Topamax cause hair to thin? Since I've gotten up to 100mg's of the Top I've noticed my hair starting to "shed" more than before reminscent of my Depakote days, I've heard that about Lithium, but all this time did not notice any abnormal amounts of loss, plus I am presently on a lower dose of Lithium now, we went from 900mg to 600mg (I am thinking I may need to go back, I see a downward shift in mood, now I can see why my doc was hesitant in listening to my plead to reduce my dose (weight issue) The bright side at least I know Lithium does work for my moods, not great for energy and weight, but very mellowing Any way do you think it is just a "summer shed" like my Molly (my dog is really shedding right now) or maybe the Topamax can be like Depakote and contribute to hair thinning?? I am sorry to be such a nudge, but you can imagine being a woman and having to be on these meds that "tamper" with the things our men pay most attention to, our hair and our shapes, at least that is what you guys make us think, ha!ha! Such added pressure, ha!ha! Thanks Cam, for what ever info you can get.

DE - While not very common (I have never seen it) I have read studies that have reported alopecia as a side effect. The highest incidence was a study of about 200 people taking Topamax and 2% reported alopecia. Gee whiz, you sure are good at getting the weird adverse effects. Have you ever considered selling your body ........ come on, to science, I mean. Question for Cam

Maybe, the side effects aren't all side effects (hair) it can be hereditary, and that "good old" peri-menopause, I am not even sure anymore, I had my TSH tests recently for my lithium levels, doc said the lab says they are within normal limits, I still have to ask him the "numbers", I've read there is a lot of question about what really is "normal limits" especially when referring to those with deperession, some docs believe in adding thyroid med to the combo of other "med". whatever my hair is still thinning, but mom and dad's hair thinned over the years too, so I guess I'm not only cursed with the pedigree of bipolar, but inhereited their genes for crappy hair. . .no hair. Cam, thanks, I really appreciate your replies, and I get a kick out of your humor, all joking aside I am an organ donor (don't know if they'll want organs that have been "laced w/lithium and other psych.meds, but they can't be too choosey.) If research in the future still has a need for bipolar brains, and I should pass on, they can have mine, it won't do me any good where I am going, ha!ha! Sometimes, didn't do me any good here either, ha!ha! Take care,
