Went to see my GP today as I've had pretty bad headaches for the last 3 weeks and T/Pdoc suggested this even though I knew the headaches were stress related.

Anyway my GP suggests doubling my Prozac and maybe add some muscle relaxants or benzos... To be honest I was a bit put off with her wanting to tamper with my psych meds without consulting my Pdoc at all. I've told her I wouldn't do anything until I've talked with Pdoc on monday as I see her for group anyway. But now I wonder whether I should already increase the Prozac as if I suffer anyside effects I'd rather have them on a week-end then at work...

what would you do?

If it was just headaches and I could handle the headaches then I would wait to see the pdoc. Ultimately I feel the pdoc knows psych meds better than the GP doc. If they suggested the same I personally don't have side effects when going up on dose as my side effects never go away and are always there at any dose so it doesn't make a difference and I would just start right away but in your case it may be better to wait til the weekend especially if you anticipate side effects. I prefer side effects on the weekend so I don't have to worry about it at work.. Just me.

It's headaches and a bit of nausea, I'va handled them for 3 weeks now, a couple more days won't kill me.
There is no way I'm taking any muscle relaxants or benzos without discussing them with my Pdoc as I nearly got addicted to them 8 years ago.
As for the Prozac, when I first started it I had pretty bad side effects for about a week. I barely have any anymore, but I worry that if I double the dose I will have another bout of nausea, dizziness and so on... I can't have that happenning at work, as I spend hours behind the wheel...

I always vote for the Pdocs opinion .. Most GP just don't have the knowledge needed to mess with psych meds.

Yeah I agree with not taking the muscle relaxers or benzos in your case. And if you drive during work, probably a good idea to wait til the weekend to up the Prozac. Then you at least have your pdocs opinion and time to work out the side effects. Good luck to you!

Had group today and asked T/Pdoc what I should do about the Prozac. She wants me to try a 30mg dose, and we'll see in a couple weeks how it goes. And she agrees with me: no benzos as the risk of addiction is too high.

I've got the rest of the week off, so I gan get the Prozac tomorrow and try it.
Thanks for this!
