i've come off prozac altogether and take 1 15mg mirtazapine at night. first night slept 13ish hours. 2nd night woke up at 2am and was wide awake and took 2 diazapam to go back to sleep. i feel extremely aggressive and weepy and ready to kill someone. is this normal? i just want to go to bed and stay there forever and never speak to anyone ever again. i feel so pent up and angry and frustrated. computer is my lifeline and is playing up which doesn't help matters, having to leav it on 24/7 or might not get back on it.
can this med change mood happen so quickly? only been on mirtazapine for 2 days.
god i feel awful, anxious and aggressive. please someone help i cant stand this pent up feeling any more.

Wow that is a lot sleep - haven't tried anything you mention so I'm not much help there.

Hope things even out - might be a good idea to call pdoc and discuss the side affects...

I had a similar sort of reaction to Remeron. I didn't stick it out, so I can't say if it would have gone away for me. But the rage was just too frightening for me. (Insomnia, though, in my case...)

What I have read, though, is that in Europe, they start at a somewhat higher dose, and that avoids most of the adjustment effects we get in the States, so you might talk to your doctor about a faster titration schedule. (DO NOT do anything without checking it out with the doctor, though!)

Remeron behaves differently at different doses. They say the lower doses are more sedating, higher doses are more activating, etc. So, maybe it'll get more helpful if you can stick it out.

Good luck.

hi kerry i've just gone back on mirtazapine 30 mg ,knock out drops i feel the same effect as on 15 mg it tends to wear off a bit but sedation is a side effect for me anyway.they are supposed to bring you out of a depression the fastest , i guess you'll have to see how they go good luck xxx

I found Mirtazapine knocked me out and also made me jumpy (like restless leg syndrome) a nightmare situation, to be so tired but your body can't relax.
I found an improvement in mood after a few days, I had to stop however as it was making me so hungry, I put on 10 pounds in 7 days. It caused major fluid retention too.
