Since '98 (diagnosed bipolar and PTSD in '79) I have been on lithium, neurontin, and zoloft. I have never felt this well. I actually thank God for my life rather than beg Him to take it. Immediately upon adding the zoloft I began taking Flonase for my runny nose, increased asthma medicine, and had an itchy scalp. After all this time of using precious energy not to scratch plus many products that did not help, I am going "public" to see if anyone shares this problem and maybe a solution. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Family

Family, hi, and welcome to the forums! Flonase can cause the itching all by itself (my daughter took it for awhile and experienced it), and when coupled with various other meds, it can get very severe. We eventually had to ask her doc for another med for her nasal condition. that seemed to do the trick. Flonase does have a number of side effects that the manufacturer doesn't like to talk about. I'd suggest another nasal med, there are other good ones.
I wish you the best, and let us know how this turns out. Greg ![]() |

Take the following with grain of salt, since I am not a medical professional. That being said, two things. 1. your doctor has you on a regimen that seems out of date, especially lithium. There are better drugs out there these days including, lamictal (sp??) coupled with Wellburtin and others. Are you sure he is following latest breakthroughs, etc.? 2. The active ingredients in Dymatap, Benedryl and other well known, safe drugs are known to help both itching and anxiety--this I know first hand. You might consider asking your doctor to perscribe the pharmacy version of the "dymatap" one. Sorry I do not remember the chemical name...perhaps Doc John can post it.

Dear Thelma,
Thanks for your comments. I have had several psychiatrsts over the years as I have l lived in six states. I really like this one and am very confident regarding his expertise. I have tried going off lithium a few times for newer meds with no success. I appreciate your comments! Family
