Hello everyone,
I have bipolar and my GAD has really been kicking my butt as of late. I have an appointment with my pdoc in a week or so and would like to ask him about medicine options for the anxiety. Are there any non-addictive anti-anxiety medicines out there that can be used with a person with bipolar? Even better, what has been YOUR success using these types of meds? I really like my pdoc and trust his opinion, I just would like to know a little more about this instead of going in cold. (Anyone seeing my obsessive worrying poking through? ![]() Thank you! Best wishes, norbie2014 |

Hi there norbie
This is a great question and one that I asked a while back. I've been on benzos for over a year now because my old pdoc dished them out like candy and now I'm totally addictive. Really glad you've asked this because members will be able to come forward and share experiences with non addictive medication that they take. Take care. |

Hydroxozine (not sure at the spelling ) but it is an antihistamine that had seemed to help for a while. I was on clonidine and really want to get back on it since my sleeping is really sucky lately.

I was on benzos for almost 2 years for anxiety, before my pdoc decided I'm bipolar. He started me on Seroquel and helped me taper off the benzos. Now, Xanax is truly an "as needed" med. The Seroquel has completely taken care of my day to day anxiety, which my pdoc thinks might have been more of a mixed state than just anxiety. I still get crushing anxiety at times, but it's not the every day thing it was before. It's usually triggered by something specific and I can take Xanax for an added boost in dealing with the anxiety at that time.

BTW, I did 30 minutes walking on the treadmill this morning (interval training, really got my heart up), challenged some catastrophic thinking on paper, and did a bunch of deep/yoga breathing and had the most anxiety-free day I've experienced in at least a week. Still looking for those meds, though! Best wishes, norbie2014 |
