My pdoc prescribed wellbutrin 75mg for depression and I am titrating up in dose. Doing okay, in fact seems as though my mood is a bit brighter. However, I am noticing that my appetite is increased instead of decreased and I am a bit puzzled. I work out and am not overweight, but soon will be I feel. Is it a metabolic thing, weight gain from A/D's?

My weight (figure) is the only thing I liked about myself - I am tall and was always quite thin, skinny until my 30's. Now I am more average but hate the feeling of gaining weight and I've heard that if it's due to an a/d, no amount of exercise or dieting will really help. I fear that depression about weight gain will stop me from taking this drug if it continues to make me gain. : (

Has anyone experienced weight gain on bupropion? Otherwise I feel it is a good drug for me for my depression. (Only been on it 1 1/2 weeks).

I'm glad Wellbutrin is working well for you. When my doc prescribed it to me, she said it's not likely to cause weight gain. Actually, I think she told me that many people lose weight when they're on it.

I didn't do well on Wellbutrin. I lost 12 pounds (in a month) while I was on it but that's because it made me terribly depressed and I have no appetite when I'm depressed.

Overall my weight slightly decreased...but the first few weeks I craved junk food. It was when I got to the higher dose that the cravings vanished. Maybe that will be the case with you? Its hard to tell.

I feel better with Wellbutrin than I have for many years. I think that in itself isn't entirely responsible for the change but it helped take the edges off so I could work on some things a little better. I gained weight but I blame that on me, not the drug. I gain and lose weight with the blowing of the wind, it seems like. I also lost a ton last spring when I hit bottom and when the wellbutrin helped me level out, my appetite did as well. I've been on it a little over 6 months and am holding steady weight-wise at the moment.

I hope it works for you. I'm certainly pleased with the changes it's allowed me to make. I'm hopeful of being able to go off it and be ok. I was scared to death to try any meds but I'm glad I did. I hope you get some comfort too.
