Hi
I have been taking remeron for around three weeks, I was quite happy with the sleepiness the drug 'appeared' to cause, however in increasing the dose I had horrible side effects, I'd feel really sleepy, go to bed, straight to sleep, then ten mins later wake up as if I'd been plugged into an electric socket ! This awful feeling of being very very tired and in a dreamlike state combined with this awful jumpiness (similar to the condition of restless leg syndrome), It lasts for around an hour, after that I seem to sleep okay. Has anyone experienced this ? It really is a very disturbing state, I was actually quite tearful when it first happened.

Hi. I've experienced the extreme sleepiness, and the weird, dreamlike state you're talking about, but not the jumpiness. Is the jumpiness all over, or just in your legs?

The feeling is similar to RLS (I experienced that in pregnancy) but much worse, it s all over accompanied by a sort of skin crawling (not itching). I appreciate the sedation as I had suffered insomnia for so long, I thought it was too good to be true, improved mood and sleep. I had weird dreams at first but that seemed to stop when I increased the dose. Can I ask if it affected your appetite Tokidoki ? Thanks !

Hi Svetlana,

I didn't have any bad side effects from Remeron, and I was on it for 2 years at 60 mg per day. It didn't make me sleepy, though, either.....which would have been nice.

BUT....it *did* affect my appetite. More so, I just wanted food in my mouth....not so much that I was overly hungry. And since this med really, really slows down your metabolism, you tend to add the pounds on pretty quickly. That is why, after 2 years, I finally had to quit my wonder drug.....I had gained way too much!! But I'm happy to say that I'm back to my normal weight again.

Just something to think about. Topomax helps with keeping your appetite down, though, if you want to augment it with the Remeron.

God bless,
Sandy

Hi. It didn't affect my appetite, but I put on the pounds anyways! Very slowly, like 2 pounds or so a week.

Have you talked to your doc about the skin crawling feeling? I know there's a medicine, benztropine, that helps with that kind of side effect. Or, maybe (hopefully Remeron/Mirtazapine.. nasty side effect ! help please ?) the side effect could go away on it's own after awhile(wouldn't that be nice!). You should call your doc anyways, just to let them know what's up.

I hope this helps. I loved remeron, it made me so happy it was great!

Remeron does cause sleepiness. The first couple of weeks I took it even my jaw was numb, but eventually it balances itself out. yes take it just before you hit the sack that way you sleep good.
