I was put on Depakote and sertriline after an attempt last May. I went off the meds myself a little over a month ago but the thoughts are back. They are starting me back on the Depakote tonight and the Sertraline tomorrow morning. I'm a little nervous about going on again, but I need something. Are there better meds for Major mood swings and the depression. I can't sleep well now either.

How was the Depakote and Sertriline working?

Why did you go off of them?

They may be better meds for you but the only way to know would be to keep trying them. We are all different. I would prefer Lamictal over Depakote. There are a bunch of antidepressants to pick from. You will have to give it some time to see how these work out. I stay for two months before switching to give it a fair shot.

Depakote made me sleep all the time, just tired so I stopped back in October. They increased the Sertraline to 100 and had awful headaches that wouldn't go away even after going back down to 50. In December when I went in to my doc, she said I guess you don't need to see me anymore. Obviously irritated that I had stopped the meds. The following appointment with my therapist...she said I was good to go and didn't need therapy any more. The anxiety and thoughts are back, so I called them to come back in. I'll see how it goes.

If you are going off on your own, like the doc won't go along, always to a slow taper. Slowly reduce dose over a month for both.

Where you are now I would try two different ones if you didn't like those two. Like Lamictal and take your pick...Cymbalta maybe.

What all symptoms are you having besides the thoughts?

Can't sleep, major mood swings, crying all the time, feel so alone, just plain tired of it all.
