Hi, I'm bipolar with a tendency for the past two years toward extreme dysphoric mania, mixed state, meaning severe anxiety and depression with some euphoric feelings mixed in. But the agitated anxiety/depression has dominated my life. Ssri's have been like poison, really setting off the dysphoric mania. At this time I take only 7mgs lexapro, mostly because it keeps my stomach from being in pain (I tend to have probs with IBS). Lamictal has not done anything to help me, despite trying it three different times over the past couple of years. I am on seroquel, but it's not amazing...helps me sleep and acts as a mild mood stabilizer, but very mild. I'm hoping to stop taking it within the coming months. I also take klonopin.

I have been pounding the pavement for help for the past year and, long story short, today a psychiatrist prescribed trileptal. I thought I'd heard of every psych med on the market, but trileptal is a new one to me. Is anyone here on it, or have been? Thoughts, experiences? Thank you.

I'm on it, have been on it for about 2 weeks. Lamictal doesn't really do anything for me either. I was on depakote, but my hair started falling out really bad, so I've been switched to trileptal. So far the only side effect I've noticed is increased thirst and I'm taking 1200 mgs. I like it so far...

Hope it works for you.

Thank you sunshine1995. I'm glad trileptal is working for you. As I understand, it's used to help treat bipolar depression - hopefully without causing anxiety. I found that whenever I went past 50mg Lamictal I felt more anxious.

Well I'm on it as a mood stabilizer. I never got anxiety from lamictal. It just didn't help with my mania enough...

I was told theres a possibility I *might* be recommended to try trileptal in the future. Who knows..I haven't seen the Dr yet. I have high hopes a different med with help me though. Is it one you have to do blood testing for? I hate about lithium. Even though its every once in a while..I hate it! Lol

I hope all works out for you! Its difficult to find that med/combo that works for you. Its trial and error essentially.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, I've been on the trial and error rollercoaster for decades. My p-doc mentioned that I will need to do a blood test after being on the Trileptal for a while just to check live function. But I won;t have to do that on a regular basis.

Yeah, that's what my pdoc said too.
Thanks for this!

Well, so much for that. This is my third day on Trileptal and I awoke this morning with the panicky sensation I've had from ssri's and Lamictal. I'm not taking the Trileptal tonight. I was prescribed Inderal about a week ago and that actually seems to help with the severe anxiety.

This is really late haha but I just wanted to let you know I've been on trileptal for about a year now (I'm on 2400 mg) and it's been pretty good for my bipolar disorder. I haven't had a manic disorder for about a year now! Hope you're doing well

Well, I answered earlier that I might be put on it and I have been! I titrate up 150mg every three days. Right now I am up to 450mg but ideally he wants me up to 900mg (300mg three times a day.)

So far it just makes me tired. Pdoc said it probably would so Im hoping it fades.
