Who else has experienced side effects from stopping your AD's? I tapered off Effexor over the last month and I've been AD-free for three days. But I haven't gotten those "typical" side effects... headache... fluish... stomach ache. Things like that I haven't had. But I've been getting "light" brain zaps. Like every time I move. But I'm finding it more annoying than anything.

Like yesterday I was driving and went over some railroad tracks and damn near passed out. While driving. Totally safe.

Anyway. I'm finding that it's making me manic-ish. Has anyone else experienced that??

Yes, those brain zaps are so common. I've experienced them several times going off one med and onto another or sometimes when I'm on a med and I've waited an hour or two too long to take my next dose.

Perhaps tapering off more slowly will help.

I get them. It depends on the med. For example, I went really slowly off of Pristiq and it was still utter hell. I just remember lying in bed for a week with nausea and brain zaps.

I've gotten them mildly with other ADs when coming off (always under the guidance of a doctor). The worst part of coming off IMO.

I was sick as hell coming off of venlafaxine (effexor). Brain zaps, tremors, nausea, headaches ... even coming off slowly I was sick.

Ah, yes, the lovely brain zaps. Effexor is notorious for it. Give it a few more days to better. If it gets to be unbearable, you can always go back onto Effexor but at a supper tiny dose. Cut the lowest dose pill you have into quarters. Or see if you can get it in liquid form. Anyway, go back on Effexor and taper off more slowly to minimize the brain zaps.

When I went off effexor, I tapered off really slowly. The brain zaps came when I went off completely and lasted about a week. Then they subsided to nothing.

Hang in there! The brain zaps do go away.

Unfortunately, paxilprogress closed its doors just recently. I know this thread was written on 12/2. But I think paxilprogress closed its doors later that month. It hasn't been up since late December. I am a new member here and I have been a paxilprogress member for 10 years. I am glad to have found this website. Another website that is really good for withdrawal symptoms of antidepressants is survivingantidepressants.org

Many members of paxilprogress ended up moving to that site.
