Hello,

I was prescribed Zoloft (100mg) today (02-06-2015), I was told to half the pills to 50mg for the first few days, then start taking the full 100mg. This is my first time using this drug. I have previously been on 450mg Welbutrin which was not working. Anyways, I haven't had any side effects until about 30 minutes ago (I took the medication around noon today and now starting around 10pm I am experiencing blurred vision). How long will this last? I know I need to get used to the medication. Should I call my doctor Monday? Will this eventually go away? I don't wear glasses, although I do have astigmatism in my right eye. I have really good vision in my left, but now it's blurry after taking Zoloft.

Please help, I don't want to go blind.

Thank you!
Hugs from:

hi cody
i know i had several side effects when i first started zoloft. but i cant remember them. they all went away after the first week or so. the worst was the constant diarrhea. it was a bad drug for me since i am bipolar. started hallucinating and it threw me into a massive mania.welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

Hello cody7ccw: It's certainly possible this could be a side effect of the medication, I suppose. You could perhaps contact your pharmacist & ask if this is a known side effect. I've been on quite a few different psych med's over the years & never had this experience. If I did, I would be seeing someone asap... & probably not waiting until Monday either...

cody7ccw, welcome to Psych Central (PC). I am sorry you are having trouble with your eyes after taking Zoloft. I have no experience with that so I found some links to people who have experienced side affects from Zoloft
Psych Central - Search results for Zoloft and blurred vision

I would call your prescribing doctor Monday and ask if you should try coming onto Zoloft more slowly or what they think!

Astigmatism does cause blurred vision. I've MS on top of it all, with some optic lesions, soooooo....if I am overtired, my nerves don't work so wonderful. Zoloft can cause drowsiness, no?

When I was on Celexa for nearly a year, I wound up with a sleeping aid. I'd suggest trying to get some sleep, a full night if possible, then see how your vision is.

Thank you all so much for your replies! The blurred vision about two hours actually after I posted this that night, and thankfully hasn't returned since! I'm just guessing it was since it was my first time ever taking it? I'm not sure, but thank you all for your replies again!
