In my opinion changing a medication dose without talking through that option with your prescribing doctor is not a good plan.

I agree. Doctors permission is always the way to go! That being said though my doctor was really stupid and told me I could increase a medication dosage myself as long as I didn't go over 40mg.. I started on 2.5mg.. and I have been doing just that and trust me it is not a good idea at all and it also doesn't help that my gp and psychiatrist do not really talk so hence don't know what each of them are doing med wise but I have asked for a 2nd opinion from a public psychiatrist at my local mental health service so fingers crossed meds get sorted soon!

The answer is never unless you have spoken with the person who wrote the script. If they have previously given instructions on what to take then you could follow those instructions.
The the consequences of changing the dose without instructions could be very serious. |

I agree, it is not the kind of thing to do. It can be very dangerous without the recommendation from your doctor.

I am not sure if my post made others angry or not? I was not in any way suggesting that changing a dosage without doctors permission was OK, rather that it was very stupid of mine to say I could change dosages myself without him saying it was OK and monitoring me closely. I am paying for the consequences now of my doctor saying what he did and changing dosages alone.
It is not a good idea at all so please don't do it without your doctors consent!!!
