Has anyone used brintellix? Just wondering what people think about it. I was on Lexapro for over a year and doing really well, but just was changed to brintellix about a week ago. Finding that I'm in downward cycle, which is probably common with medication changes. Doc recommended I change since ive been gaining weight, I think I'm a food addict, because brintellix has a side effect of nausea and maybe then I wont rat as much. Seems like a strange way to deal with medications, to hope for a side effect, but I guess if it helps me lose weight.....

It appears that your doctor is kind of experiencing with this med as it is in the same class of meds as Lexapro. (SSRI). I am not seeing that weight loss is a side effect of this med. I have no idea why they would stay in the same class of meds unless they know that patients report lower or no weight gain on this med. Even if studies show that a med increase or decreases weight, there is no guarantee that it will affect you in the same way. Meds are mostly a chemistry experiment. I hope that your doctor has evidence that this med is not a weight gainer but no med will work unless you adhere to lifestyle changes like lowering your food intake or completely changing what foods you eat. Good luck.

So developed a horrible itch after 3 days on Brintellix, 10 days later and I'm scratching so bad I have bruises and cuts. No rash or hives though so thought it might be another issue. Finally spoke to doc about it and discovered that itching is common size effecct, not an allergic reaction, but nerve issues, so all the anti histamines font help. Just wanted to let others know that severe itching can happen and I'm not sleeping due to itchiness.

I'm on Brintellix and I've had an okay response with it. It's supposed to be really helpful with memory and cognition and I have noticed some improvement with that. As far as depression goes, it's been okay. Not a stellar improvement, but there has been some improvement. I did have some nausea with it initially (like the first week), but it went away.
Lexapro didn't do anything at all for me, good, bad or indifferent

Oh, I wanted to add, it's different in that it's not a strict SSRI, it's a serotonergic agonist/antagonist at several different serotonin receptor sites. It's got a really cool mechanism of action if you're interested.

I started Brintellix last November. I felt relief within a few days and really kicked in a couple of weeks. I also take Venlafaxine and a low dose of serequel. I haven't any side effects either.

I just started brintellix. It is going to replace zoloft. I'll let you know how I do. No itching though. Not yet anyway.

I think its not that common a side effect, but man was it uncomfortable! I was bruised everywhere because I couldn't stop scratching! Brintellix

Youch! You probably should have been taken off that med sooner!

Started this med about two months ago, tapered off Prozac. I've been extremely depressed since I started it.

I've been deep in the pit since fall though. This made me worse.

If I would lose weight on it I'd keep taking it, but since I'm continuing to eat like a risperidone pig, I'm going to stop it.

Sorry it has made you worse void. I have felt an increase in energy and motivation. I have made the gym mostly everyday. However when I went off zoloft I had two back to back days were I felt terribly depressed.
Whim how are you doing?
