some nights i have such an intense sense of uneasiness that i absolutely cannot fall asleep no matter how close to passing out from exhaustion i may be

i have a hunch that it is the seroquel, but im not sure as i've read that the other meds could cause it as well... even that too much caffeine can cause this uncomfortable side effect

i am a heavy caffeine user and never had this problem in the past before meds

i forgot to bring this up at my appointment and am wondering you guys opinions

i've started taking the seroquel earlier in the evening since it doesnt make me tired, but am wondering if this is making the problem worse and if i should take the medicine later

i also take trazodone and zyprexa at the same time (also its not the strattera because i just started this med)

I had a similar experience on trazedone. When did you start trazedone and was this an issue before or after?

I have this problem with Seroquel and my pdoc told me that Seroquel can make Restless Leg Syndrome worse. It doesn't happen every night and I haven't found a perfect time to take it to prevent it. I've just learned to live with it.

I am on seroquel alone and I still get it. It was worse when I first started the seroquel so it may get better for you.

It was recommended to me many years ago by a orthomolecular pdoc (Abram Hoffer) to take manganese with an antipsychotic to counteract movement disorders. He said there'd be no tardive dyskonesia if drug companies added manganese to the pills. If I don't take manganese for awhile I'm a contortionist in bed. Extreme jerking and twisting in my entire body. The manganese cures it for me. I take 25mg every morning.
Thanks for this!

Just a quick question? Are you by any chance anemic? Low iron levels commonly cause restless leg syndrome and I think a lot of docs (especially psychiatrists) forget about this and a lot of psych meds can mess with your white and red blood cell count. Zyprexa can rarely cause anemia as can a billion other things - inadequate nutrition, heavy menstrual bleeding (I don't know if you're male or female), vegetarianism etc. Just an idea. Maybe something to check for.

I had issues with RLS and another AAP, Latuda. Having a big full belly after dinner when I take it has eliminated this issue for me completely. I am starting to resemble Buddha just a bit thought. Hehe.

Good luck!

im male

im not sure if im anemic or what, i've always been a poor eater but when i started zyprexa i started eating more
lately though i've lost my appetite and the RLS (or possibly akathisia) seems to be getting worse
i usually eat when i take night time meds so i dont know

it doesn't happen everynight and im trying to watch to see what might be triggering it...

i've heard that benzos help relieve this side effect, im going to bring it up at my next appointment

i've been on seroquel for a while now but only recently (somewhere in the past few months) they added zyprexa so is it possible that the 2 of these medicines mixing is causing akathisia?

Do you have symptoms all the time, or only at night? It could be akisthesia. Benzos are one of the treatment options for RLS. A quick and dirty way to see if it's akisthesia vs. RLS is to try taking a Benadryl next time it happens and see if it goes away. Benadryl will treat akisthesia but not RLS.

its not all the time, not even every night.. but i'll say maybe 3-5 times a week and it only happens when im trying to laydown and go to sleep... im a fidgety person so i am always shaking my legs or moving in some way while im awake, which maybe why i dont notice it during the day?

i've already tried the benydryl, it didnt take it away... atleast i would still lay in bed for hours trying to get to sleep before finally passing out

i've never had this symptom before so is RLS induced by antipsychotics?
