What meds tend to make you feel emotionless? The only real emotion I feel is hopelessness and wanting to escape reality. I'm on lithium (900mg/day), cymbalta (60mg/day), and abilify (30mg/day). I can't remember the last time I felt happy, or that if I smelled the fresh cut grass I could smile. It's been too long.

Hello, hartbroken. You should not have to feel that way. Please tell your treatment team what is going on. Adjustments are indicated.

Hi hartbroken, you shouldn't hav to feel that way. And I'm sorry that you do. Talk to your pdoc about adjusting or tweaking your meds. You maybe able to reduce a med or change one to minimize that zombie like effect.

A lot of the anti-psychotics will do that. Remeron, though it's dose actually has what's called a curvilinear dose-response curve, this means the more you take, the less sedative effects it has on the body in most cases. Doses higher have an effect on androgenic receptors meaning it actually makes you feel wired and alert. Benzodiazepines, pregabalin (Lyrica), gabapentin (Neurontin) are the ones that come to mind and the tricyclics, trarazadone all of the Z drugs . Basically it is based on your on physiological metabolic makeup and tolerance. Also if you are on more then one medication with interactions.
Again, as glok says talk to your pdoc and treatment team. Everyone reacts to their meds. differently. I was just naming the most common. Talk to the professionals taking care of your health care!

Abilify had me sleepwalking. Scary, I live on the second floor.
Trileptal made me a zombie. I had no emotional response to anything, just an automaton & quit (forgot) to take care of myself. I've had great results with Cymbalta, which I've been on for probably ten yrs. I'm at twice the recommended maximum dose--120 mg/ day. But it makes by depression managible. Best wishes ... finding the right meds can drive a same person nuts. Have a serious, in depth discussion with your pdoc, please. ![]() roads ![]()

AEDs for me (depakote/lamictal I've tried so far). Benzos the only thing I feel OK on I've found so far.
Moving on to something else I guess. |

Citalopram effects motor coordination, appetite, motivation - like a zombie.
Also, not good for the heart. Lexepro, or Escitalopram, is the purer form of this med, so says a psych doc.

I didn't realize it was until I was off of it, but Wellbutrin seriously flatlined my emotions. Also, Ativan made me so sleepy I couldn't function, even at the lowest dose. I wasn't on Lithium or Latuda long enough to know what they would have done.

I really didn't realize it, but Lamictal was a total downer for me. I'm now off that stuff.
