Rosyanne, your post is clear and well posted. Thank you for your question.

Since I cannot draw on my own experience, let me provide you with some links to Psych Central that might be relevant.

Well from what I understand it is a sort of psychedelic drug. As far as I know about psychedelics being tested/used for mental ailments the idea is to help bring new perspective and experience a positive mood/mental change due to the experience.

I have never taken ketamine, but have taken other psychedelics though not in any clinical setting....as far as direct effects they can alter color, how things look, how things sound though not sure how high of dosage you'd be getting so maybe not so much effects. It is a little difficult to explain the effects of psychedelics on mood and it can vary....ideally it would improve mood....but its possible to have a negative experience as well, but if you are in a safe setting that's not very likely and you'd have help if things do start getting unpleasant.

But yeah for more accurate/specific info it might be a good idea to just do a little internet research on ketamine specifically...but that is my knowledge on it based on personal experience with other psychedelics and reading up on them.

I called to get into a study as I understand it's very effective in the short term. It busts you out of depression so that you have enough energy to use the other methods of therapy. I never followed though tho cause I was too depressed to make arrangements and spent over a year and a half in my bedroom doing nothing. I've often wondered if I had made arrangement to go if I could have ended the depression much, much sooner.

Yes if I recall it is still temporary, so one would have to probably undergo a couple treatments a year at least to fully benefit from the therapy.
