I was prescribed Lexapro for anxiety. I only took one pill, a 10 mg dosage, but just as I was about to fall asleep at night I suddenly felt a tightening in my chest, almost like my heart being squeezed.

It was terrifying so I stopped taking the medication. A few days after I had stopped taking Lexapro I did some heavy exercise and really tired myself out. Ever since then, I can feel my heart beating. Normally after I exercise my heart slows down after a few minutes, but it hasn't stopped. I expected some of the symptoms to last for a week but it's been a few weeks and while all of the other side effects I experienced are gone, I'm experiencing constant heart palpitations. I had my heartbeat measured and checked my blood pressure and they're normal but I can feel my heartbeat every second of the day. I know it's not anxiety. I don't feel anxious at all. And while I've had anxiety before it's nothing like this feeling and I've never had it last all day. I feel this every moment, even when I'm watching a movie or falling asleep.

It's very annoying and uncomfortable. Is this because of the Lexapro? I've never experienced anything like this before. I really hope it stops soon. I only took one pill and I read Lexapro usually leaves the system after 8-10 days but it's been several weeks. I'm a petite person so I don't know if that's the cause and it's just taking longer to leave my body. If you've taken Lexapro, how long did it take for the side effects to cease?

If you have had everything checked by a doctor and it is normal, what you could be experiencing is an awareness of the heart that is much more than before. If our heart beating or breathing becomes part of our awakened awareness, this awareness can continue long after the stimulus has past.

What sounds like is bothering you is that you think there is something wrong. You may just be more aware than before.
