I'm taking 150mg Bupropion (wellbutrin) and just started 20 mg Paroxetine (Paxil) last night while I was trying to fall asleep the ceiling looked like it was bulging and the tiles looked like they were moving like water. I was also seeing tracers of images such as my shelves and picture frames. My husbands face was changing slightly too. Looked warped and like he had lots of freckles. It eventually stopped but this has never happened before.

What's up with that?

They're called hypnagogic hallucinations, essentially hallucinations as you're falling asleep, in that state between asleep and awake. SSRIs, and to a lesser extent, buproprion, decrease REM sleep and can cause various parasomnias, such as hypagogic hallucinations. It's not real common, but it can happen. It's more likely to be due to the starting the paxil, than the wellbutrin, especially since that was new. Most studies show these are temporary and should go away with time. If they don't over several days, I'd give your doctor a call about switching meds.
Thanks for this!

Thank you! I was searching the web trying to find an answer and that was definitely the best one. I see my doc in a few days so hopefully it goes away by then

I'm more inclined to think it's med related than hypnogogic. I experienced closed eye hallucinations on an ssri as well as the bulging effect when i was not even tired. It lasted for about a week or two.

Hypnagogic hallucinations are related to SSRIs and occasionally buproprion.

Rather than can be, but are not necessarily related.
