My daughter started taking 50mg Zoloft about 8 weeks ago and she has reacted wonderfully to it. Prior to taking the drug she was extremely withdrawn, angry and depressed. Unfortunately, the drug has caused her eczema to go crazy. Her skin is severely dry and cracking/bleeding. Nothing is helping. I have called her doctor twice and she has not called back. We have an appointment next week. I am heartbroken over the idea of stopping the drug because it is helping my daughter so much but she can't continue with her skin in this condition. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would another medication help the depression but not bother her skin as much? Thank You!!

Can the eczema be treated instead of changing meds?

No real suggestions, but I developed severe eczema on my heels about 10 years ago which cleared up after I moved to a new place. It could be something else in the environment making it worse.

Dry skin and/or a rash are common reactions to zoloft. What have you tried? Are you sure it's ezcema?
Thanks for this!

Most studies show there's cross reactivity between most SSRIs, she'd probably have the best chance switching to another class. Im guessing you've already tried antihistamines, topical steroids and going crazy w moisturizing-I have pretty bad ezcema and in addition to all of the above, I use coconut oil mixed w crisco at night. It helps.
Good luck.

First as someone with ezcema I can relate. It had been under control for years until I started Zoloft.

I'm currently getting off Zoloft. Too many side effects like ezcema coming back. (--- Not to mention negative mental side effects.)

For eczema I recommend Cetaphil. As Pinkflower17 recommended Coconut oil is also great!
Thanks for this!

thanks for the suggestions! She has had pretty bad eczema since she was a baby but the Zoloft drove it crazy. She takes antihistamines and uses cortisone to get it under control. She usually is pretty successful. The doctor switched her to Lexapro...i'm hoping for some improvement.

Have you tried "Cortizone-10 for Eczema"? Changed my life. It would clear up eczema in short period of time. I was amazed.

Sure you already know this, but just in case --- everything from bath soap to laundry detergent needs to be hypoallergenic.

Also, I just realized this but my Eczema improved greatly when I moved near ocean and swam a lot. I did a quick search and salt water seems to help. Too bad I don't live near ocean anymore...

I was on Lexapro for a while. Didn't make skin dry (just serious negative mental side effects. But I realize now I can't take that class of drug (SSRI).)
