I was doing good on not gaining weight when I was on a lower dose, but ever since the dose was increased I have been gaining weight. I also feel hungry even after eating a moderate amount of food. I am also taking Metformin to prevent weight gain. What else can be done to prevent weight gain besides starving myself?

What med are you on?
Could you bring this up to your pdoc and see if there are alternative options that don't have the weight issue?

With metformin, you need to follow a low carb diet and avoid sugar (like a diabetic would) in order for it to really work. I had a hard time with the diet since I was taking it for the same reason as you- to counter the weight gain from antidepressants and I was hungry all the time. Talk to your doctor about this to see if there are any other things that can help. My pdoc didn't know you needed to follow the special diet - I had researched online and found out. He was surprised and interested to know.

Well, I was thinking about changing back to Zyprexa since that causes weight gain also. The Metformin helps substantially, but I am still gaining a small amount of weight. But, the small amount of weight adds up. I guess I will just keep taking the Metformin.
