Hi offstuff. It is generally unwise to combine alcohol with Meds. Here are links that discuss this issue.
Psych Central - Search results for Buspirone and alcohol

Besides being an active participant in helping oneself at Psych Cental, many people also help support each other by replying to other people's posts. Many people who are actively involved in Psych Central find it helps take them out of their own problems to develop empathy for others. And their problems are more manageable the more they help others.

You need 5 posts or replies to other posts to use the chat room.

Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com

Hi CanDc..Thx for the response. How-ever,i dont really need a general link to go to i can do that on my own. If you google anything it has you at deaths door, thats just what the web does!..I`m asking a question because i am not like most that take a med two to three times a day(bless their hearts),im asking if anybody else is in the same situation and what came from it. Like i said im on a low amount 7.5 mgs once a day and to be honest i dont even know why im on this,i should just stop, its not doing much for me anyway. But i do appreciate you answering my post, looks like you do that alot. Bell you,Nick

For me, alcohol exacerbates my anxiety severly in any quantity or form. So taking a medication for anxiety and drinking on it is pointless for me.

Good luck,

moogs

I'm not a doctor and cannot give medical advice but I don't see anything wrong with having a drink or two in the evenings socially, it's not like you're planning on getting trashed or anything or drinking constantly. I drink once in a while and am on several meds, if you're really worried about it and your doctor for some reason won't tell you then ask a pharmacist

I'm on 15mg in the am & 15 mg in the pm. On the weekends (not every weekend) I will have a few drinks. I'm not a big drinker so I'm usually max out at 2 or 3. Haven't had any problems yet and I've been on it for years.
Go have some fun once in a while!

I can tell you that, according to the PI, the only thing that would be an issue is if you have existing liver damage. Otherwise, I think you're fine as long as you dont go nuts.

i have been on buspar for years. anywhere from 30-60 mg, along with antidepressants to mood stabilizers to antipsychotics to benzos to all of them at once. and i have always drank on them with no adverse side effects. typically i limit my drinking to 2 but there are times where i have gotten pretty drunk as well. those times i just didnt take the AP's and benzos before i went to bed.

i actually had my pdoc tell me to have a couple drinks to enhance the klonopin to keep me from having a panic attack when i had to fly back east. i was floored by that.

so this is just my personal experience. i am not really advocating or recommending that you drink with your meds.

I found this post interesting because my son who is 20 was just prescribed this. He was on Zoloft for 6 weeks and his therapist refered him to a new family doctor to get this in addition to the zoloft. I was told it was to be taken as needed so I am not sure. ANYWAY... The old family doctor my son was seeing knew of my son's alcohol problem. He put on the zoloft prescription - NO ALCOHOL. He knew how many times my son had passed out from drinking. So when my son wanted to switch family doctors I became worried. The therapist he is seeing for anxiety is the same one I was seeing for help in dealing with my alcoholic son so he knew also my son has a drinking issue. To make a long story short.... I stopped seeing the therapist when my son agreed to see him. (He doesn't know I was seeing him, I had recommened him) So I find it interesting that in 6 weeks on zoloft to my knowledge he did not drink beer. Then the exact night of the new doctor and the new buspirone pills the girlfriend brings him beer..... They hid it from me and I found the empty cans when he left for work that day... I am devastated. I am assuming he asked the new doctor if he can drink on this and I am assuming the doctor doesn't know his history. I am at a loss. I pray that he will not resort back to drinking a case of beer in one night- yes he would drink 24 cans and then want more. Praying that he felt a difference on Zoloft and doesn't want to go back down the drunk road again. He didn't treat his girlfriend good at all and I can't believe she gave into him and bought him booze. He gets verbally mean to her when he is drunk and she broke up with him at least 3 times already but he always manipulates her back into the picture. So he did drink alcohol and I didn't see any affect on him with the busprione.

Hopeless!..Thank you for your story and i hope it works out for your Son. Must be hard to be a Mom OR Dad and watch this happen. A persons gonna drink if he wants to drink no matter WHAT the Dr. says, its just the Disease. But if the pills detour him even for just one day,its worth it!<Prayers> Nick
