Lets see, for ADs I've been on:

Prozac
Effexor XR
Celexa
Lexapro
Zoloft

I'm on my 6th one which has been working great for quite awhile, Paxil.

I've been on a ton, then I found out I shouldn't be on any.

I can't possibly remember, there have been so many. But most of all the favorites. And I'm not sure that the current one is still working completely.

I've been on most of the SSRIs and some others. Some of them worked quite well for awhile and then pooped out. Others I tried gave me bad side effects. Now I am back on Prozac and it is working well for me. I haven't noticed any side effects from it. First I started on 20 mg. and I am up to 40 and think it's a good doseage.

I've got good things to say about the SSRIs I've tried. Each has strengths and side effects to deal with. What have you tried and what were the results?

Good question. Singly or in combos, I've been on:
Pamelor
Elavil
Celexa
Zoloft
Prozac
Lexapro
Gabapentin
Seroquel
Tramadol
Topomax
Depacote
Zonegran
Effexor
Abilify
Pristiq

Some never worked at all. Others worked just a bit. Zoloft had nightmarish complications. Effexor lasted the longest - 10 years, but then stopped. Now on its cousin Pristiq, sometimes with abilify, sometimes without. I take such a high dose that my pdoc has to jump through hoops every year, but he's a trooper.

Wow now you have given me hope. Prozac was the first anti-depressant I was ever on and that was 40 years ago. It was the best thing that happened to me. My depression was completely gone within 2 weeks. I felt like I was on the top of the world and really have never even felt like that ever. I was so happy in all aspects of my life. I am going to ask my dr if I can go back on that. I took it for 8 years and then it stopped working. Thanks for that post.

Hi,

Not too much. Only sertraline and mirtazapine. Both didn't work well for me.

I've been on 26 as of last count. Right now I'm on Luvox and seem to be doing okay. I really struggled with side effects on most of them.

I have been on two.

Mirtazapine was, for me, worse than useless (suicidal ideation).

Venlafaxine is, for me, great.

TheWell, nice to see you again (I've been away). It's great to hear Luvox is working for you. Are you doing quite a bit better since you did TMS? That's the last time I was really active on these boards and I remember it didn't work well for you.

The first time was 12 years ago and I found Celexa right away and it started working wonders within 2 weeks. Celexa worked for 11 years but then I had too many side effects.

This time around has been hard but I am now on Wellbutrin but it's only been about a week. I'm on a super low dose since I'm sensitive to meds and have a lot of side effects but so far it's helping my mood. Haven't cried for felt like dying in 6 days, so that's a plus. Maybe this one will work if I can make it through the side effects. Time will tell.

I was prescribed Citalopram (Celexa as above poster) for generalized anxiety & I've got to say it worked wonders for me. It was the first & only AD I have been on.

I guess it's just like all psychiatric medications have different effects on different people... some like me get lucky & others have to try countless different ones.
